Do I ask for a recommendation for transfer application after the semester, or right before, or when. The problem is that as the semester comes to an end in the next month, finals come up and these teachers have less and less time. Hoewver, if I wait till the end, when am I going to get it. Cornell's winter break is literally 4-5 weeks.

I'm also curious to know the answer to that question. Also, is anyone else worried their professors might be offended? A lot of my professors are alumni somewhere along their career.

but in my situation...i really dont know. In my case, I am asking either my T.A. in one of my classes, who is the head T.A. for the very largely government introductory class or my English teacher for writing seminar.

Although I am not applying to Cornell, I did wonder if the professors at my school will get offended if I am applying to another school. However, I have found that most of my teachers are really understanding. They were once in college, so I am sure they know that every college is not for everybody. I think that they will want you to be happy.

If they do get offended, so what? As long as they give you a good recommendation, it doesn't matter. You ultimately control your life and your destiny. Would you stay at the college because you were afraid someone might be offended if you left?

Depending on when the application deadline is, you should ask for recommendations as soon as possible. Most people I know say give them at least two weeks, but I will be giving my recommenders at least two months to write them and get them sent off. If you have two weeks, then I say give it to them now. The earlier, the better!
