When to take first SAT?

So I'm a rising junior and I'm a bit confused as to when I should take my first SAT. I really don't want to have to retake it at all, but if I must I'd like to get my retake done junior year as well.
I just ordered the Blue Book and it should be delivered tomorrow. If I start studying tomorrow, for say, an hour or two a day, when would be the best time to take the SAT for the first time, and then for a potential retake? I'm shooting for 2200+. On my sophomore year PSAT, I got a 198 with minimal studying for the math portion the night before, like an hour or two at most (CR was my worst section).

Also, I know there's a wealth of information on CC in the form of user-written study guides, but which one would you say is the most effective? (Silverturtle's, Xiggi's,...etc...)

Thanks so much!

Take it as early as possible. I made a huge mistake and took it in June, and thus neglected SAT Subject Tets, and now I have to tackle both my SAT retake and my Subject tests in the fall of my senior year. :(

Take it in January at the latest for your first time, then retake it in March if you’re not satisfied with your score. Leave May and June for Subject tests.

^I wouldn’t say to take in Jan then retake in March. There’s not a lot of time between those. I’d say take in October and retake in March or maybe take in January and retake in May or June. And take Subjects in either May or June

I took my first SAT in seventh grade and got around a ~900. :P

My first legitimate take was in May of my Junior year and this turned out to be a BIG mistake because I had to take my subject tests in June which means I only have one more chance to retake my SATs before I apply early decision / action.

So take them as soon as possible.
