So in 2013, I'm planning to take both the US History and Biology SAT Subject Tests on the same day, but I'm not sure if I should take them before or after the AP Tests.

The two dates for the Subject Tests are May 4 and June 1.
The AP Biology Test is on May 13 and the AP US History Test is on May 15.

Should I take the Subject Tests before or after the AP Tests? Thanks :)

I took SAT II USH in June, about 3 weeks after the AP, so I could study a bit more. The SAT II USH exam is more detail-oriented than the APUSH exam. Same goes for Bio, especially that the AP Bio curriculum is being watered down this year.

Now, if you know that you won’t be studying in the lull after APs and before SAT IIs, then just take the SAT IIs in May and get it over with ;).

Hi IceQube! So how much more detailed are the SAT II’s than the AP’s? Would you say by A LOT or just somewhat more detailed?

It really depends on how motivated you are and how much your teacher decides to procrastinate. For example, my AP bio teacher taught the last 12 chapters in a couple weeks, and as a result, I didn’t do as well on the May test as I did on the June one. If you’re motivated enough, do the June one and take the 3 weeks after the AP test to study. Most students end up deciding that they’re sick of all that work, and since the AP test is done, they kick back and relax. If you can continue to push forward and study daily, then go for June.

I actually feel that the AP exams are a bit more detailed than the SAT IIs. Perhaps not exactly detailed… I mean more of that APs make you think more outside the box. Most of the questions on the SAT II are just “you know it or you don’t.” But on the AP exam, you have quite a couple of those “half correct” answers that try to trick you. There are only a couple on the SAT II.

Ok, thanks Aquawater98! That’s better to know that the SAT II’s have less of the trick questions.

I took APUSH on the late day at the end of May and the Subject Test like a week and a half later. After the AP test I didn’t study. I went to B&N the day before and took two practice tests. Got a 4 and a 770.

There were a lot of questions that I felt were copied from AP to the Subject Test.

The single most important fact I learned all year that gave me points on them: Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring.

Thanks CSIHSIS! SO must of the material you covered for the AP test was also incorporated into the SAT II Test? I will be sure to keep that in mind, as well as the fact that Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring.

The SAT II for USH is odd… it asks very random facts. Most of my friends who are excellent at test-taking and had no problem getting a 5 on the APUSH exam struggled w/ the SAT II. Like… on the June one, it asked what disease was prevalent in the 1950s or something. We never learned anything like that.

In general, take SAT Subject Tests during the month of June. The material is fresh in your head after that year of hard work.

^Usually only if you’re motivated enough to retain that knowledge.
