I am a currently a junior and am not positive when to take the SATs, but I definitely plan on applying to some competitive colleges. Any advice (currently I am considering taking the test on march 14, 2009)

I'm pretty much in your situation. But a tad bit complicated.

I'm convinced that if you received a good psat score, you should definitely try to take the test in January. It's right after winter break, before any major school projects, and way before the AP madness. It also allows you to improve your score later in the year.

As it turns out, my all state orchestra weekend falls on the 24th of January. But I think taking the SAT in January (that is if you are prepared) will make the rest of the year so much easier.

I understand where you are coming from, I just don't want to rush into the SATs, but since the January deadlines are coming up, I am still a little ambivalent. Then again, a related question I have is that do colleges care how many times you take the SAT, or do the only look at your highest score. Because if that is the case, wouldn't it be logical to take the SAT multiple times just in case you can improve your score?? A little confused here...

note that it doesn't really matter how many times you take the SAT b/c of collegeboard's new policy where you can just submit your best score
