I'm a HS junior this year.. I keep hearing the the CAP program will end soon? Are these rumors true? Is there going to be a CAP Program next year, because I'm really interested in doing the CAP program.

maybe when top 8% id like you 1% / i doubt they end it

Above doesn’t know anything. I haven’t heard anything myself about the CAP program ending, maybe a call would be the best thing.

edit: i meant “when top 8% is like 1%”

@supaumar find a life lol

You know how many people would have to be in Texas schools to lead to the top 8% becoming top 1%?

dont know and dont care / i said “maybe” / i dont really see them ending CAP / alot of schools have a variation of CAP

If you don’t know (vast majority of your posts) and don’t care, then refrain from posting.

Even though the Texas legislature changed the acceptance rules to UT for your class, UT is obligated under the new law to alert Texas high school juniors in September of their junior year as to the requirements for admission, such as % for automatic admission (8% for your class), and any other changes, up to and including CAP.

Call UT admissions for verification, but CAP is still in effect for your class.

@txex i was sayin i didnt know how many kids /

refrain from directing comments toward me.

As far as I know the CAP Program isn’t going away but UT did end its Summer Transfer Program in 2008 when I graduated from high school.

Honestly, I hope UT DOES end the CAP Program. People may hate me for saying this but IMO, if you can’t get into UT just go to the school that accepted you. Most people that I know who are in the CAP Program are trying to get into the business, engineering, etc. colleges and are only disappointed to find out they won’t get in internally and are stuck at UT and don’t know what to do.

CAP doesn’t prepare you for UT and is a complete joke. 30 credit hours and a minimum of a 3.2 GPA is absurd.

@AAli

for people considering business,engineering, etc they actually recommend you go with one of your other options.

reading your other post, i see you were a CAP student. its a little ironic you say that

^ I regret going through the CAP, great experiences and friends but not worth my time and money. Would have been happier elsewhere and doing business right now. Just letting other people know how I feel…

I am sorry it did not work out for you AAli4Real.

You are right. CAP does not prepare you for UT. It is far too easy compared to UT. Hopefully, when we have more flagship universities in Texas, CAP will not be as needed or desired.

I am finishing up CAP and I can attest to the “too easy” comment. There is no way this is getting me ready for UT. If someone can barely pull a 3.2 here, they are going to die in Austin. Hell I am coasting into finals with two classes over 100 and 3 other high As (not trying to brag, just showing how easy it is)… But, I am sure everybody doesn’t flounder, right? It seems hard to believe that extremely successful people at UTSA won’t have some success and UT.

so @AAli4real your a business major? what was your major goin to be at UT before you got CAPd? and what is it now?

You can be successful at UT as long as you are prepared for the difference.

pierre, I was an econ major but now I’m a gov’t major…not a business major, yet hoping to get there. Thanks for the concern guy’s!

I think it is likely that the ability to CAP guarantee transfer into COLA and Natural Sciences will continue for quite a while.

If business was guaranteed I’d do CAP in a heartbeat.

^…lol, UT would never do that, not even in a million years ;)

If Mccombs wasnt ranked it would be different
