When Will They Send Out Their Decisions?

I've recieved no merit nor oppurtunity. Perhaps they haven't issued them yet? I hope they haven't, at least.

The government thinks my family can pay 19k a year for college. Ha...the government can...do...something to themselves.

You must be wealthier than us...the government only expects us to pay 17K. We didn't bother to submit the FAFSA. I did an online version that came up with the 17k figure, and A&M doesn't cost that much, so it didn't seem worth it.

My parents work a lot of overtime. It's not guaranteed overtime which is why the 19k figure is bizarre. But does the government have a place to indicate that on FAFSA? Nope. So yah we're stuck with 19k EFC when A&M tuition is 16k thus I doubt we'll get anything.

I HOPE we do but I doubt we will.

Final news on my son is that he was waitlisted - offered Blinn team, waitlist, Galveston, standard transfer option. He sent his form in indicating he'd go for waitlist and is not interested in Blinn team. He's moving forward with VMI. For future info for other out of staters here's his stats: SAT 650 Math, 560 Verbal, 3.23 GPR, % rank in class - 37%. His extracurricular included: Varsity letter swimming 9th grade, 2 yrs football, 3 yrs boxing, 3 yrs summer mission trips, high church involvement (not just youth group), Lifeguard and WSI training, job as Lifeguard/swim instructor, certified SCUBA diver since age 12, among other things to numerous to mention. My guess is that it boiled down to his GPR being on the low side and the extracurricular didn't mean much. He's a well rounded kid, going for military education and was accepted into VMI and The Citadel. I think after all we went through with A & M, it's a school for Texans unless you have high grades and SAT scores. They do not recruit separately for the Corps which tells me that their military life program probably can't compare to VMI and The Citadel anyway. The appearance was that he was heavily recruited - we got phone calls incessantly pushing for him to come visit, which he did twice. They said to get stuff in by October 15 which he did but then he didn't hear anything until April 7. If you are out of state with more average grades and serious about a military education, I would suggest looking very closely at the other options - if you can afford it or go for a ROTC scholarship. The Citadel and VMI and others are interested in finding well rounded individuals that can handle all aspects of what they will throw at you.

Sorry to hear about the news from TAMU. Curious how your son felt about VMI vs Citadel. We are scheduled to visit both this summer.
