I am a first year community college student with 12 units with a 4.0 (sociology 101, econ 101, philo 101, mass comm 101) and only took 9 units for fall (calc 1, english 101, student dev (1 unit))

I want to transfer after 30 units (1 year?) but I'm curious if I can still do it in the shortest time even though I only took 9 units for fall (about 2 classes)

also If I can when do I apply etc?

You need to aim to take at least 15 units every semester to look competitive. Anyone can take 9 units or 3 units or 12 units and get a 4.0 especially if they have nothing else going on in their life. it doesn't show an intense workload when you're taking bare minimums just to keep a gpa up. btw, they're still going to take into consideration your high school record because by the time you apply for fall 09, you'll still be under 30 units.

Really?? Is this true that it looks worse taking 12 units in a sem?

I'm taking 16 units right now, 3 in the winter, then 12 more for spring would it really look worse rather than taking winter off and 12 in the spring? I don't want to take too many units in one year obviously but still should i maximize my workload in the spring?

yea i am taking 17 units just this sem and then another 15 or 16 next sem. I gotta look good lol except believe me, it is tough to take alot. If you dont think you can get a good grade then dont bother taking more.

It's not the end of the world, it just looks like you took a light course load if you're closer to the 12 units than you are to the 18 units. By taking a light courseload and achieving a 4.0 every semester doesnt look as impressive if someone took 18 units every semester and managed to get a 3.8 or higher.

I guess the exception would be if you somehow have a full time job or something that balances out the 12 units. Otherwise it doesn't look like you challenged yourself compared to the thousands of other students who'll also be applying.

Gotcha, I just realized I was doing

16, 3, Then 15 units in the Spring. 34 Units is pretty close to the maximum of 36

I'm alright, especially with a good load of extra curriculars.
