Hey, I might go to Trinity if I don't get good news from other schools in the coming weeks.
Come onnnnnnnn, there's got to be more Trinity applicants on cc!

It is a great school. My son almost went there but ended up at Pomona. It was a difficult decision as he liked Trinity a lot after his overnight stay. The dorms are great. Everyone we know from our area who goes or has gone has only positive things to say. Where else are you waiting on?

vassar, boston u, brown, and uchicago.
with financial aid being as it is though (not good)
i may have to go with trinity.
i'm just not sure i'd enjoy it as much--i'm not a religious or athletic person.
but i didn't want ut b/c it's too big.

It is not religious at all from what I gather, and not everyone is into athletics, probably half and half, like any other Div 3 school. If you visit you may be surprised. Good luck with your choice and options. My D is considering it too, will decide after she hears from everywhere.

I did visit last spring, i'm going again after i hear back
from others. :O

The financial aid isn't that great. At least in my opinion. 11 grand in loans for your first year alone, I dont think so.

You can appeal finaid. Send a copy of your other offers, if it is your top choice and that is what is holding you back.

i got into boston u a couple days ago, so i'm going
to turn the appeal on them ;)

D graduated from Trinity last May with a BA in Math. Completes her 5th year Masters in Teaching this May. She LOVED/LOVES Trinity - it was a perfect fit for her. No undergrad financial aid as we didn't qualify. Her SAT's were 10 points shy of an automatic scholarship. She did get a $10,000 scholarship for her masters though.

SO how did you all pay for school then? Were the loans big?? Just wondering.

Used savings to pay - we were lucky that we could do so.

i know i'm going to be going the major loan route.
it's different for everybody, depending on the college that would be best for you and whether it's worth it.

Go to the link for Top Liberal Arts Colleges. For some reason the two forums are not connected.

i got in with a scholarship but unfortunately haven't visited yet. can anyone speak about the social life at trinity?

My D always had something social going on during her undergrad years.
She did join one of their sororities and that was a very good thing for her. Their sororities/fraternities are local - not national - & rush happens 2nd semester.

Son #1 goes to Trinity and son #2 has been admitted. Son #1 LOVES the social life! It's a beautiful campus in a beautiful, fun city. Lots happening on campus, lots of organizations -- Greek and non-Greek. Lots happening in SA and up the road in Austin. Go visit!

Son #2 also just got admitted to NYU -- what different worlds!

I was admitted to Trinity, but due to horrible financial aid and the fact that I really want to leave Texas, I'm not going. What I can tell you is this: the profs are really nice, the dorms are VERY nice, and there is a lot going on. When I visited, students went to see Trinity Drama's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Some friends of my host went to the symphony. It also seemed to me that every person has a niche, but a lot of people know many outside of their niche; no one is lacking for friends. Yes, there are the jocks, but it isn't overrun like at a state school. There are nerds, but they also participate in a lot of EC's, which gets them out of a study sphere. About religion - Trinity is a 6 on a 1 to 10 scale. There is a pretty large chapel on campus, and people do attend services or masses. They are also service-oriented, doing lots of volunteer work.

San Antonio is a great city - my favorite in Texas. There is excellent food (go to Tony Roma's on the Riverwalk if you've never been - great barbecue - and Mi Tierra in the Mercado,) shopping (flea markets, the Mercado, the Riverwalk center,) activities (there's always some concert and Sea World and Six Flags are close by.) And, Austin isn't that far. It has a great music and indy film scene. Also, San Marcos is close by. You can river raft, go to Schlitterbahn, and shop at the huge outlet center.

yeah i'm pretty much dead set on boston u (getting out of texas is a big factor for me too.)
i was just surprised that there wasn't any kind of thread on trinity b/c it's really a great school.
the religion is what really bothered me the most b/c being of the non-religious variety and living in the suburbs of texas for several years, i really don't know if I could handle it for another four.
anyways, everything turns out for the best.

i get no need-based aid anywhere anyway, but trinity was pretty good with merit aid.
yeah, san antonio is lots of fun.

gathering from previous posts on this thread, a lot of texas-based trinity applicants want to get out of texas. being from california, do you guys think i'd have a problem fitting in? im going to visit later this month, and i'm hoping the school is welcoming and open to all different types of people.
