Where Can I Go to Get My Essay Published?

My English teacher was so riveted by my argumentative essay on the death penalty that she is urging me to have it published, but she doesn't know of a place where I can have that done. Any idea as to where I should go? Thanks.

My first thought on this was to go to Teen Ink Magazine...I'm pretty sure they have some sort of section for Current Events, if memory serves me well.

If not, you could always try to submit your essay (if you have THAT much faith in it) to the major newspaper in your area...according to my uncle who works at the Houston Chronicle, newspapers are pretty amenable to publishing well-done essays from teenagers that are socially relevant.

As a last resort, try some major magazines like TIME...again, last resort.

Good luck! :)

Try your local newspaper.

Submit it to the editorial page of your local newspaper. E-mail it to the editorial page editor. Include your phone # and e-mail address. Your chances of being published will be stronger if you also tie your essay into the fact that executions were suspended this month in 2 of 3 states due to concerns about execution problems (such as a Florida inmate's allegedly painfully dying because the lethal dose of medicine wasn't injected correctly).

Also let the paper know you're a high school student. Newspapers are very interested in attracting young readers, and the papers think that a way of doing that is by publishing high school students' work.

What is your view of the death penalty?

Definitely submit it to the editorial section of your local newspaper. At our school, a very talented student wrote about the U.S.'s fiscal policy and he a ton of good feedback for it. Someone wanted him to run for president lol.

I would like to thank everyone, especially Northstarmom. Your advice was excellent.

I am against the death penalty, seeing it as a futile method of punishment and a great financial burden that ought to be done away with.

I second the young reader comment. A friend of mine submitted her awful, ten-sentence editorial to the local newspaper a while back and it got published because she mentioned she was ten years old in the editorial.

The New York Times website has a page for submission of guest editorial columns.
