Here's the problem: my gpa is a 3.72 (3.2 9th grade, 3.8 10th, 4.0 11th)
I have above average EC's, plenty of AP's, some fantastic jobs and internships, and a few very prestigious awards, but I don't know how much my gpa will hurt me in the admissions process.

Do I have a legitimate shot at top 10/20 engineering schools?
Umich/Stanford/CMU/Harvey Mudd/CalTech/Princeton/Cornell, etc....

Please Help!

You’re in at CMU (they don’t consider freshman year grades)… For the rest, you have a good chance at U Mich, and the others are reaches.

Forgot to mention I’m in state at UofM, does that make a significant difference?

If you’re in state, you’re probably in at Mich as well.

bump again?? help!

You should be fine for UMich. I believe they only count GPA from sophomore and junior (plus senior if available).

I thought that policy of theirs had changed??

lol that GPA is not bad at all, especially with your rigorous courses. You don’t need a 4.0 to get into the top colleges…

I think a 3.72 is a fine gpa. It is definitely good enough to get you into Carnegie Mellon, UMich and maybe even Cornell although it is a bit of a stretch.

Thanks for the input guys! any other chances? :)

U mich actually started looking at freshman grades a couple of years ago, but is the least important year. You should get in still.
