She is also nervous about getting in because she doesn't test well and her scores so that. Can I just add that this waiting is driving me crazy. Apps have been in since end of Oct.

Yes, there are a lot of internship opportunities. Students can apply for a funded internship (about $3500) over the summer in Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, or Columbus after their sophomore or junior year. She could also apply for national internships such as Amnesty Intl. or with the government.

Thank you much. I will have her begin checking information. DO you think she satnds a chance at acceptance?

I'm a Miami alum, and I would be surprised if she was not accepted. She took a very rigorous course load and her extracurriculars are great. The 26 ACT falls into the middle 50% of the current first-year class. I had a great experience at Miami, and I'll gladly (and honestly) answer any further questions you or she may have. Miami tracks the number/type of interactions with each applicant. An on-campus interview along with repeated specific inquiries to the admissions staff showing she took the time to research Miami will definitely increase her odds (even though I don't think she will need the help.)

Best of luck to you and your daughter with your search!

Thank you so much for your offer finize. Is an interview something the student requests? Is it too late as students should hear beginning Feb 1 if they are admitted or not? I will have her inquire as to how internships work in terms of the number of semesters for graduation. I imagine that internships proong graduation if not done in the summer and whether courses are sequential or not in terms of maintaining grade status. She is definietly interested in Miami. I will say she is concerned about whether there is enough diversity? Any thoughts? She comes from a fairly diverse high school in terms of ESL (somali students and hispanic students) and caucasian as well as african american students. She though doesn't have many classes with different groups would love to continue that exposure as she believes that these experiences have contributed to her personal development.

In regard to racial diversity - the Miami admissions department is working diligently to recruit more multicultural students. That said, they have some work to do. Multicultural students on campus are typically african-american or asian. The various racial groups seem to get along well on campus. There are a number of good 'bridge' organizations, including clubs, fraternities/sororities, professors, and guest speakers dedicated to cross-cultural/racial learning on campus. If you consider geography, Miami is very diverse for a public university, with nearly 40% of students from other states; with most states represented in the student body. In my first-year dorm corridor, we had students from NJ, NY, FL, MI, and IL, among others. This definitely did add a variety of perspectives to conversation. It's also important to mention Miami's own campus in Europe (Luxembourg). Many students spend at least one semester there, and it's generally affordable; with significant travel time already built into the schedule. Miami is one of the top 20 universities in the country (including schools much larger) in the number of students studying overseas. Miami has set a goal of getting at least 50% of all students to spend at least a semester studying at the Luxembourg campus. I honestly don't have much knowledge of the internship programs. Diversity and internship questions are absolutely appropriate to bring up with the admissions team - don't hesitate to contact them! The specific admissions rep for your geo can be found on the Miami web site in the 'high school students' link. If you ask, I'm sure the admissions rep could get you in touch with the appropriate professor(s) to discuss internship opportunities. Did this help?

Please check with admissions regarding this - the last time I checked, they were still holding them. Of course, if they have already reviewed her application, they may not allow it.
