Not trying to debate the old SAT vs. ACT but just wondering about who submitted just a top ACT score and good grades with no SAT and where they got accepted??
Why was this moved???
Me! Penn, Dartmouth, rice, ucla, mit, cmu and others with a 34
And a 4.0 uw
Thanks for the info! You obviously did well in subject tests as well.
Schools don’t discriminate SAT vs. ACT
I know someone who got accepted to MIT and everywhere else she desired with a 35 ACT and no SAT. I’m sure she was a near perfect student and she had strong subject tests.
I had an SAT but chose to use my 33 instead. Has worked out for me so far!
Well daughter has decided to send everything and we are waiting to see! She shied away from MIT, Harvard and Prince because she fleet she would not be a goof fit and the essays were crazy. Waiting on Rice and Cornell. Accepted everywhere else so I suppose she mad the right choice. We shall see!
I had a 35 on my ACT, no SAT, a 3.8ish uw, 5.35 weighted, and I’m a current freshman at Cornell (top choice)! Schools really don’t have a preference for ACT or SAT.
I am a current senior in high school, and I had a 33 (34 superscore) on the ACT with no SAT or SAT Subject tests and 4.02ish unweighted GPA. I am most excited about Yale and Colorado College so far. I agree with everyone above; schools are now great about accepting either! If I could go back, I would do both because you will have the option of sending either (and the more options, the better!).
I definitely agree that you should take both. You have more options and a better chance on seeing what test fits you.
My advice is to take both in the first half of junior year. See how you fare on each then pursue the one you are more comfortable with, studying sections based on where you need improvement. Colleges really don’t care which one you take. More and more kids in the New England, historically the domain of the SAT, are choosing to only take the ACT. The SAT has been losing ground, hence why the SAT is being dramatically revamped.
I have a friend who scored a 1900 or so on the SAT and got a 34 on the ACT, which is the only test she acknowledged in the admissions process. Her GPA, extracurriculars, and hooks were fabulous and she’s looking at an ivy ED acceptance right now. I would say that if ACT is your preference, do not hold back. I, on the other hand, did much better on the SAT than the ACT- that has worked out for me so far too.
Like above posters said, take both just to get a feel of each. Go from there.
D scored only 2010 on SAT and 36 on ACT. This much variance Is probably not common but there is a radicall different range of schools open to you if you do much better on int test vs another
My kid has a 33 on the ACT…never took the SAT…and took no subject tests. So far, she’s been accepted to uchicago, unc-chapel hill, georgia tech, northeastern, and both of our state universities…and she’s received good signals so far from the remaining schools (tufts, upenn,BU etc.) but we’ll know by april 1.
WOW! Those are some amazing schools she was accepted to! Congratulations to your daughter!
@saismom . Where else has your daughter been accepted if I may ask
@SouthernHope .Was Acceptance TO USC Chapel Hill Early Decision By chance? I was under the impression that they notify like the ivys for Regular decision but maybe I’m mistaken
She did end up submitting her SAT and ACT because she had a few schools on her list that specified "all test scores"and she also submitted subject tests as well. So far accepted: FSU ( Honors) UF, GT(Honors) Colorado School of mInes, RPI,Alabama (honors). Still waiting for a few others on April 1.
