I'm not in college yet but I'm curious. Do most people study in their dorm rooms or at the library or another building or something? I feel like my dorm room will be too distracting!

I never study at home, unless it’s my last resort because everywhere else is closed due to holidays or lateness. I spend 50% of my life in the library and 10% of my life studying in a cafe or something.

I only studied in my dorm after my roommate moved out. I would use her empty desk, which I positioned so that I couldn’t see my side of the room and was staring at a blank wall.

Otherwise, I usually studied in the dorm study room when no one was in it or at my club’s meeting space [since lots of people studied there and some of them had taken my classes before and could help me]. I rarely studied in the library because it was so packed.

Either in a quiet classroom or the local Starbucks.

Anywhere but dorm room. Dorm room as a last resort or if my roommate isn’t there.

My dorm room, the caf, the computer lab in one of the academic buildings. Anywhere but the library…I hate studying in the library.

35th floor of the Cathedral of Learning

Gotta love having a skyscraper at your university :)

I thought I was the only one who hated the library, haha. During midterms and finals – forget about studying in the library. Especially finals when the library was open 24 hours. People basically camped in there with their pillow, blanket, snacks, and illegal prescription pills so they wouldn’t lose their spot. Madness.

I used to search for empty classrooms on campus and study in there. Or sometimes take the bus off campus to a Barnes and Noble and just study all day there.

I’m going to sound like a terrible person, but the worst part about my uni’s library is that the only free spot to study will undoubtedly be three feet away from a sleeping homeless person who reeks. I swear, there’s a 2:1 ratio of homeless people to students above the ground floor. Many students won’t even use the elevators because so many people use it to sleep after the building closes to non-students.

I love studying in unused conference rooms in less-visited buildings. Our math building has a bunch of nice rooms on the top floors, and so few undergraduates go in there that it’s nice and quiet.

It really depends, I found myself studying at both the library and my dorm. It really depended on the type of work I was doing. Right before finals I avoided the library, it is always packed then and often there are slackers who decide to “study,” which to them means talking to friends with their books open.

I hate the library. I need white noise in the background so that sudden noises don’t distract me. Usually I do homework in my dorm room, and go to Starbucks or the common area to study for huge tests. I’m around people, but I’m alone–that’s preferable to me.
