Where should I Live as a transfer?

I'm heading down as a transfer this fall and was wondering where I should live? I'm going to be moving down by myself. I'm very outgoing and social. I'm 20 and will be 21 a few months into the semester. Should I craigslist a house in IV, tropicana gardens, or other dorms?

What type of environment are you looking for? If I went to UCSB, I’d personally stay at IV.

A environment where its easy to make friends, party and still able to study. I’ve had my own place before so food, cleaning, cooking, ect isnt a problem

University apartments, if possible.

I just moved my daughter (a transfer) out of mouse and mold infested apartment in IV. Be very careful about where you live. I moved her into San Clemente Apartments, and I think they are perfect for a transfer. They are graduate apartments but they let undergrads have overflow. You have your own bedroom, there is a living room dining area and kitchen (small but nice and clean). There are two bedroom and four bedroom models, one bathroom per two people.

San Clemente is definitely nice, but it’s also the least social place. Tropicana is way overpriced for not being on campus. I would either live in the Santa Ynez University apartments, Manzanita dorms, or San Rafael dorms. Santa Ynez is a great option because it’s the best value youre going to find; it’s not that social, but it’s a great value. The dorms are gonna be a little more pricey (like 5 grand a year), but they are generally a little more social than santa ynez and also much more convenient since theyre on campus.

Living in IV is definitely the best living situation in my opinion, but I’m not sure I would recommend living there in your first year. I would only live in IV once you’re sure you and your roommates get along really well. But if you craigslist a place and end up hitting it off with your potential roommates and you could see getting along with them really well, I’d go for it.

San Raf. or Manzanita would be your best bet. If you like studying a little more, Manzanita, which sits right on the beach. I wouldn’t move to IV unless you know someone you can live with.

Trop is expensive. I’d recommend trying to live in a xfer dorm if you can, then a U-owned apartment. I knew some people who moved into IV directly and it worked out ok for them. Socially it isn’t as great as the dorms, but the big plus of UCSB over most other UCs is that just about everyone lives right near campus. So the people you meet in class and social activities will be easy to meet up with. Apartment living puts more of a burden on you to get out and meet people, and you don’t get the same support structure as you would with an RA and so on, but it isn’t impossible either.

The dorms are $5K a year? I thought we were paying $14K for a double in a dorm. . .

I meant youre gonna pay 5 grand MORE, my bad
