Where to park for free

So I lost my permit and can't afford to pay for another one (right now). But I have to keep going to work nd class.

Where can I park for free? There are no lots on campus that I know of that are not permit-restricted or pay-by-hour.

And in the city of College Park itself, no spots that are not metered or in tow-away lots.

I'm not averse to parking somewhere and then taking the metro or bus into school, but even that will be hard...around most (well, all the ones I've been to) metro stations parking is pay parking, and I just don't know of anywhere to go...:(

The Shuttle UM has routes to/from several Park & Ride lots, which I think are free, including Burtonsville, Laurel, and Bowie.

i think it’s only $20 to replace a lost permit.

you could try lot 19, the commons parking garage. there have been some changes in the set up, and technically you still have to pay, but there are no barriers to get in any more. everyone seems to be a bit confused about where to park now, so i bet even if you had an old permit up, you might be able to get away with it…

If it’s just for the summer, you can print out an orientation parking permit and park in Lot 1 or lot 9. They should be valid through the 28th.

What an excellent idea!! Except I know that orientation doesn’t happen every day…soo…on second thought I dunno.

I already got about four warnings…

Orientation may not happen every day, but the permits are valid the entire month that they have program. It’s how the Orientation staff parks for free during the summer.

Yeah I thought about taking Park and Ride but there’s only one bus out and one bus back…so if I miss it, I’m screwed…and plus it leaves campus too early for the end of my shifts :/.

Also I would gladly pay $20 (well, not really…I already paid $50!!) for a new permit but I have negative money in my checking account. No lie.

But I put the orientation pass on my dash so my fingers are crossed…
