Where to transfer?

So, I definitely want to transfer. Here's my stats, where should I apply?

Freshman at Bard College
Chem/Psych Major
A First Year Seminar
A Calculus II
B+ General Psychology
B/B+ General Chemistry
30 ACT (34R/31E/30M/26S)

I play college rugby, write for The Observer (the official school paper), in Amnesty Internatial (currently planning a human rights festival), and am currently taking Brazilian Jujistu. I play percussion and am currently playing in a psychedelic jam group. I also am a research assistant to the head of the Chem department; I do pretty expensive and complicated experiements for a professor with a small group of select chemisty student.

In high school I was class treasurer, played four years varsity football, had multiple bands which recorded and played shows, and held two jobs for almost all of high school. I had a 3.2 UW at private catholic and was 32/177. I took the hardest course load possible.

Right now I am looking into Tufts, Vassar, Brown, and possibly Amherst. Where else should I look that is reasonable? I'd like to stay in the northeast.

Why do you want to transfer?

Bard is a weird place. That's the only way I can explain it. I love the academics, but as a preppy athlete who was popular, I just can't take the social atmosphere; mainly the hipsters and geek-chic kids. I love the intellectual atmosphere and the activism on campus, but I just can't do the geek-chic and hipsters.

Sounds like the Patriot League fits your personality. Division 1 Academics and students in the top 10 % of their class. Preppy and mainstream.

Sorry Mean to say Patriot League is NCAA Division 1 Athletics and great academics!

The Patriot League - Official Athletic Site

Holy Cross is in the Patriot League. In its 2008 The Best 361 Colleges, The Princeton Review awarded Holy Cross a 98/100 academic rating - the highest of any Catholic institution of higher education, including Georgetown University, University of Notre Dame, and Boston College.

No, no, no, no...I don't not like Bard because of the lack of athletics. In fact, I wanted a lack of athletics because I do not think that a large commitment to athletics is important in the college atmosphere. I just don't want to be an outcast BECAUSE I am an athlete.

I'm thinking of Bowdoin and Wesleyan....matches? I don't know how much my HS stats will hurt me.

virginia anyone????? Or williams or Amherst?

Do you think my stats are good enough for Amherst or Williams?

I don't know. Have you looked at the stats of students who have tried to transfer in?

Most schools don't release them.

Right now my list is:

Tufts
Bowdoin
Wesleyan
Vassar

Maybe Brown or Amherst?

Check collegeboard.com to look at the transfer admission rates. Several of the schools on your list have extremely low rates. You need to have at least a couple of colleges on your list with reasonable admission rates.

I know how to find the rates. That tells me nothing about the applicants.

Well the thing is, there is no point in transfering to a school with academics worse than Bard's when I have a $24,000 a year scholarship. No schools that are on par with Bard, or that are better, have reasonable admission rates. If all else fails, I stick it out at Bard.

If you can find me a GOOD school with reasonable admissions rates, let me know.

Correct that the "rates" don't tell you anything about the applicants, but let's assume they are as strong of applicants as the frosh; hence, the Amhersts and Wms of the world are more difficult to get into as a transfer than frosh.

BUCKNELL
COLGATE
ROCHESTER
engineering schools like RPI, CWRU

I'd more like to know what kind of schools the successful applicants went to and a range of GPAs.

bumppppppp
