i just got my SAT scores back and they're not as high as i expected-
math: 520
reading: 680
writing: 670

i'm taking two AP courses (psych and literature), and have won a few awards for my journalism/writing. i also completed a 'precollege' summer program at NYU in which i got full college credit for two classes (they told us that the courses may very well help our entry).

although my math score is still pretty low, it has jumped significantly since the last time i took the SATs earlier in the year. i am actually quite capable in math but moved to the US from australia about a year ago and am missing some fundamental math skills that are taught early on here. i will have a letter explaining such differences from my guidance counsellor. i'm a senior and i want to go to nyu but don't know how probable that is. do you think that there is a chance they will look past my low math score and focus on my other achievements? if i don't get into nyu, can you think of any other schools with such prestige/quality that i could apply to?

oh, also my mother got her pHd from nyu and taught there for a number of years.

please help!
