Where would you go over Duke?

Hey,
Just wondering where you guys would go over Duke

Stanford might be the only school that could take me away

Caltech, if I got a good scholarship there, or perhaps MIT, same as before.

My parents are not paying for school though, which means I have to get a full ride, and considering Caltech and MIT, that’s probably not gonna happen

only place on my lost higher than Duke is Harvard!

Depending on money but being neutral:

Dartmouth

Stanford

Princeton

Williams

Amherst

Middlebury

Rice on ful scholarship with prof mentored research program (might end up a lot higher)

Duke

Brown

Cornell

Pomona through Vassar to #16

Stanford

Dartmouth

Princeton

Williams

Amherst

Pomona

Brown/ Cornell

Rice, if you are medical/bio and get adequate scholarship and research offers

Harvard

Penn

Dartmouth / Duke

Harvard / Yale / Pomona

Princeton / Georgetown SFS / Columbia / Duke

Already been accepted to every one except HYP, but it’s no done deal.

I think way too many people on threads like this worship at the altar of the U.S. News rankings. Not one person has said why they would or wouldn’t choose Duke or anywhere else based on visits/fit/program. Too bad.

^ Fine.

Yale or Princeton, based on Financial Aid concerns, the fact that their campuses are a bit dryer than Duke’s (read: way less Greek), and because both have been my dream schools since I was old enough to know what college is. :)

Columbia, Penn, HYP, MIT, Stanford (note: didn’t apply to S, M)

I’m looking for international relations, so I would definitely take Georgetown SFS, Yale, Princeton, or Columbia over Duke. Furthermore, these schools are all significantly less southern (not derogatory, just not what I’m looking for) and seem to have better relations with their communities. Yes, even Yale. Georgetown and Columbia are especially attractive because of location and internship opportunities.

Harvard and Yale definitely

Maybe Dartmouth, Columbia, and Princeton.

FREAKING LOVE Duke, but need money. I was so depressed when i wasn’t even selected for the Robertson semi-finalist. so i’m probably going to Vandy where i got a full-tuition.

qq, how did R&B (room and board) get so expensive??? I’m pretty sure that most R&B’s aren’t worth the 10000+ that one has to pay nowadays.

only stanford. otherwise, DUKE <3

Princeton 6

Harvard 5
Yale 5
Stanford 5

Columbia 3
Dartmouth 3

Amherst 2
MIT 2
Penn 2
Pomona 2
Rice (special condition) 2
Williams 2

Brown 1
Caltech 1
Cornell 1
Georgetown SFS 1
Middlebury 1
Vanderbilt 1

HYPS seem to be great fits for a fair amount of people…

I got accepted to Yale and Stanford so I won’t be attending Duke this fall. gl to those on the waitlist!

maybe tufts, thats the tie for me right now.

We are trying to decide between Yale & Duke. Duke seems to have better ranking in Engineering & Business/Economics. Yale as name recognition.

If you break out rankings of schools some have departments that are top rated…for example in one area Harvad may be first and then 30th in another. If you are concerned about rankings check them out on the web for each department. The name recognition of a major school won’t carry weight with prospective employers who know and recruit the schools.
