I recently got accepted to UCI and while I know it's a pretty good school academically...but how's the social life? I hear it's fairly dead in the area and that doesn't sound too appealing.

I'll tell you this much: I live near Irvine and the social life isn't exactly crazy good, but the area around UCI is really nice and the city itself is an awesome town.

but how is the diversity. i heard there were WAY too many asians, is that true? will that kill the social scene at irvine?

I say this not as exaggeration but as a fact: Irvine is dominated by the asians ethnicity. The city could quite possibly be more than 50% lol. Caucasians would come in second as Irvine is a nice upper-mid class city. It doesn't necessarily mean there is no social scene...just a lot of asians! ^_^ but the food there is great (which is really the only reason i visit Irvine)

O yes, and of the asian sub-category, Irvine consists predominantly of: Koreans, Chinese, and to a bit lesser extent, the Viets.

so will i be able to adjust to the asians if i attend, are there enough white/mixed race people to have some diversity?

Oh of course, Orange County area in general has a lot of whites and mexicans... just Irvine is a special case (as is Fountain Valley, Westminister, Fullerton...etc lol)

also, i don't see why it's such a big deal lol...

oh, I don't have a problem with the asian demographic. I wasn't even considering that in the Irvine scene. I was just asking if Irvine is comparable to other UC's in terms of parties and such?

It all depends on what you make of it. If you want to party then you can but it's not going to be like UCSB where there's parties everywhere. If you don't want to party then that works too. Join a fraternity, clubs, get to know people and you'll find UCI isn't the "socially dead" place some people claim it to be.
