Im only planning on taking one of these, so which one should i take? Ive made an A in stats all year but the teacher has not given us AP like questions on our tests. As for Bio, ive made an high B but we have been prepared well, its just that it is too much material. So which one is the easier one out of these two? and if it also matters i am going into Pre-Med, and Biology is going to be Major in college.

Thanks!

You do not have to be a biology major to do pre-med. (Biology majors who do not go to medical or other graduate or professional school tend to have poor job and career prospects at the bachelor’s degree level.)

AP Statistics usually counts as a non-calculus-based statistics course, but many majors that require statistics require a calculus based course.

AP Biology may count as a biology course at your university.

However, medical schools generally do not accept AP tests in place of pre-med courses, so you will either have to retake them or take more advanced courses if allowed to do so at your university. Check your university and medical schools for more information.

Why are you only planning on taking one of these tests?

I took AP Biology last year and I’m taking AP Statistics this year. From my experience with practice AP Statistics tests, I would say that Statistics is the easier of the two. If you aren’t ready for the Biology, you shouldn’t take it, even if it’s more related to your desired area of study. A 5 in AP Statistics is going to more beneficial to you than a 3 in AP Bio no matter what you’re doing.

AP Biology does have a wide range, but the multiple choice questions tend to be general. The essays are tough, seeing how they can ask you anything from DNA polymerase to the biological niche of Sub-Saharan Africa, but if you review well, you can scrounge up at least half the points on any essay they throw at you.

If your teacher hasn’t prepared you guys with AP style questions, go to the CollegeBoard site and look at the released Free Response Questions. CollegeBoard also usually releases old AP multiple questions (like back from 1999), so you might find some of those on the site as well.

By the looks of your grades, I would say just go for Statistics if you’re only going to choose one. Even if you had A’s in both classes, Statistics would end up being easier for most people anyhow. Feel free to ask any further questions on either of the tests.
