Which class looks best to colleges to take in summer school?

Unfortunately, students can only complete and take 1 credit course during the summer program. I’ll be a senior this fall so this is my last summer school :(. I have never been to summer school before but I have heard it is extremely easy.

Currently I have a 3.5 weighted GPA and really need to raise it.

I got a B first semester and a C 2nd semester in Algebra 2 Honors sophomore year. Got sophomoritis that year.
I can retake that 2nd semester where I got a C.
Junior year, I got a B+ first semester and an A 2nd semester of Pre-calc. Should be getting an A in AP Calc next year. I don’t reall

Or should I take a course that I have never taken before? I was thinking of taking Earth Space Science which I have never taken before. Science courses that I have took are Bio 1 Honors, Chemistry, Anatomy, and AP Physics.

Which will be better for college admissions?

See if you can retake that Algebra 2 C. Although you’ve definitely shown you can master harder subject matter, that C ought to hurt your GPA and grade repair would help. HOWEVER it may not be allowed to retake Algebra2 when one has already completed Precalc.
If you take 1/2 class, are you allowed another 1/2 in a subject you’ve never taken and are curious about? Taking the 2nd half of Algebra 2 plus a 1/2 class in whatever subject you know nothing about (pottery?) would be the best compromise. :slight_smile:

I’m allowed to retake since it’s in the summer, I already asked my GC about it
.
In my school, retaking a class won’t replace the grade you got in the first class. It gets computed into my GPA like it’s a brand new class. It will still boost my GPA if I get an A since the A will be counted towards my GPA, however the C will still be computed in my GPA. My school doesn’t give weight to honors courses so its a 2.0. Both classes will be shown on my transcript regardless.

I’m actually only allowed to take 1 semester, which is 1/2 a full year course, in summer school.

If it matters, summer school offers only regular courses so no honors or AP. I took honors Algebra 2 though.

Or should I retake the class at a university or community college?

Here’s what I found that is offered at the university:
I’m not sure which one of these classes is algebra 2.
Algebra and Trig I
Algebra and Trig II
Intermediate Algebra
Algebra I
Anlytc Geomtry&Calc I

So should I retake Algebra 2 in summer school or take one of the above classes at a university? If I retake it at the university will colleges know that it is because I got a C in algebra 2 sophomore year? Will it act like a retake? I don’t want colleges to think I took a lower level math class to boost my GPA.

What’s your current GPA?

Would you be allowed to take one semester class at your HS + a summer class at the CC?

@MYOS1634

3.5 GPA for now… Should go up a little since I got all A’s 2nd semester of junior year which ends tomorrow.

There is a one semester limit in summer school. I got a B first semester of algebra 2 so I just need to retake 2nd semester where I got a C. I would love to take both semesters since a B is a pretty bad grade too but I’m not allowed too.

However I can take as many classes I want at CC or university.

Would the summer classes at CC or university be counted in your GPA? IF so, would they count as a weighted class?

@MYOS1634

The grade gets sent to my high school and I will get high school credit for it and it will be on my transcript, so I’m assuming it will since the grades is on my transcript. It will also be on my college transcript. If not, colleges will be able to recalculate anyways since it’s on my transcript right?

My school only weights AP classes. Honors classes and classes taken at a college aren’t weighted.

It sounds like taking classes at the CC would be the best deal for you then.
