I have recently been accepted to several college programs and would like to know if anyone has advice on which I should choose.

Some General Information
-I am looking to major in Political Science
-I am highly considering law school after college

American University
-Accepted into Honors College
-Received excellent scholarship, but still would be hefty tuition
-Pro: Washington probably the best place to be for Political Science
-Con: Hefty Cost

George Washington University
- Accepted with nice scholarship, but even heftier tuition than American
-Pro: Even more centralized in D.C. than American, excellent reputation
-Con: Extremely Hefty Cost

George Mason University
-Accepted into Honors College with full tuition scholarship
-Pro: Good school with good programs, not far from D.C., low cost
-Cons: Not as centralized to D.C., not the best reputation, much bigger than my other choices

Binghamton University
-Accepted with no scholarship
-Pro: Not extremely high cost (in state), excellent state school reputation
-Con: Not centrally located anywhere

I am very undecided on what I should do and would really appreciate opinions on the schools. Thank you.

Talk with your parents about the money issue. If law school is in your future, you don’t want to spend much for your undergrad degree.

No matter where you study, it will be possible to arrange a semester in DC or a summer internship. You don’t have to be on the spot for all four years.

if you’re going to go to grad school, it might mean that you should focus on the financial aspect of your choice; so, unless american and gwu are schools you’re in love with and you can’t see yourself at gmu or binghampton, i think you should go with one of the cheaper schools. but it just depends on what’s a bigger priority for you. your pro-con lists seem good so i think you’re off to a good start, and i think that soon enough it will become clear which is the right school for you, if you keep thinking about it. good luck! :)

If money is not a problem I would choose GW rather than AU. It is closer to the center of the city, some dorms even include converted apartments. AU seems like a much more traditional college environment. The thing about Mason is that it really is not that close to the city(I live in Fairfax). DC’s metro and bus system is notoriously poor. That being said, you could go into town, without too much drama.

Ofcourse, if Georgetown was an option…

I say it is all about the fit. GW has absolutely 0 school spirit, A lot of people would not like that. Mason has ok unity. It is kinda a commuter school, a large portion come from Fairfax and the surrounding areas, so they go home on the weekend or live off campus.
I would recommend that you do not worry to much about prestige or money. Find a school that suits your tastes. I know lawyers who went to lower ranking schools than these; they make multi millions each year. The money will invariable sort itself out.

Summary, my instinct says GW, but you should try to visit, and find the fit for you, rankings don’t matter.
