I've noticed that in some thread people will comment that it seemed like half of their class applied to this place or wanted to go here. So I'm wondering, in general, which colleges/universities do/did people from your (or your child's) high school seem to gravitate towards?

I'll go first...
I live in southern Maine, and I've noticed that a lot of people from my school apply to University of Maine at Orono. A lot go there too, actually. My class of 2010 friend told me that about one third of his class ended up going there! As far as out of state colleges go, I feel like Colby-Sawyer college in New Hampshire and Skidmore college in New York have both been popular application places in the past few years, along with the state colleges of some nearby states like Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Northern NJ student here. Everyone at my high school seems to apply to either James Madison University or Penn State- University Park, or both. As far as the Ivies/upper tier schools go, Brown is far and away the most popular, followed distantly by Georgetown.

Large public high school in Palm Beach, Florida.

The top kids are all diffrent. I think we have least 1 kid applying to every top 25 school.

I would say the from next 5-15% are Univ of Florida lovers and are going. The next 20-30% are Florida State kids. The next 30% are Central Florida and the rest are FAU the local CC.

Pretty much how it’s been for the last 4 years since I’ve been here.

I go to school in southwest MI. about 1000 kids.
About 15-20 of the above-average to top kids go to U of M. Some others go to MSU. Lots go to Western Mich, Central Mich.
The bottom 20% go to LMC (local community college). Some outliers go to Ivies.

I’m from a small private school in the Northeast. About half of my class is applying early to Georgetown. Not my class in particular, but previous classes have sent a lot of kids to BC. Other than that, Northeastern seems to be a popular choice among the less intense students.

International student here. People from my school mostly go to universities in the UK, but out of those who apply to the US, many seem to choose Brown, Boston University, Trinity U, Williams (Williams and Brown accept a disproportionate number of people from my school), Tufts, Vassar, and Dartmouth.

I go to a small private school in Orlando, Florida. A good chunk of the class goes to UF due to the Bright Future scholarship, and another good chunk go to either UCF or FSU.

I live in Frisco, Texas (about 40 minutes away from Dallas).

Top 5% kids are applying to MIT, Rice, Duke, and Princeton. UT Austin is their safety.
Top 10% kids are just doing UT Austin and some A&M fans
Top 25% kids are the most diverse. A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma, Alabama, California, New York, etc.
Top 50% are doing basically the same thing as Top 25% except instead of A&M, they go for Tech. And New York/California isn’t on their list.
The rest are going to Collin County Community College. Many people just call it QUAD C (Every word starts with C and there’s 4 words).

At a magnet in VA.
More than half the class goes to UVA, WM, or VCU (slackers)
As for Ivies, Penn is the most popular “lower Ivy”, while Princeton is by the most popular upper Ivy (in the past 2 years 28 applied to yale, 37 applied to harvard, 42 applied to princeton)

People from my school apply all over the world, before it used to be heavily UK focused, now people have branched out more, and I expect they will branch out even more with the ridiculous tuition increases in the UK…but that’s off topic

For US, USC is THE most popular choice. About 10 people got in last year.
