I’m a junior in hs right now and I’m debating over whether or not I should add a chemistry class I took over the summer at a community college into my high school transcript. I got a B in the class because the curriculum was forced down in 5 weeks, so it would definitely bring down my 4.4 GPA:(( I was wondering if colleges consider a high GPA more important than the students’ outgoing(?) in taking part in a college-level course. And if I didn’t add this chemistry course into my transcript, would there still be a way to show colleges that I actually took the class in their applications (i.e. UCs, private schools)?
GPA is always weighed with course rigor. If that’s your only Chem class you need to add it.
Not only should you report the college class; you are required to list all college classes taken for credit. I can’t speak for the UC application, but for the common application, there is a place to list any colleges classes you took.
In terms of adding it to the HS transcript, I would say no if you don’t need it for HS graduation requirements. Having said that, I would not use the 5 week class as an excuse for why you got a B. Others got an A in the same class.
thanks! I’m fulfilling my grad requirements with AP physics right now so I shouldn’t have to use chemistry. And lol yea I was pretty sloppy in that chem class
but would I be put at a disadvantage for not having chem in my high school transcript even though colleges would also see that I took a college-level Chem class?
If you took a class at a community college, you will have a college transcript and you need to send a copy of this transcript to any college that you will be attending along with reporting the grade on any college application which includes the UC’s. There is a National College Clearing House that will have a record, so you do not have a choice. If it is a college course, it will be treated as an Honors course and show course rigor as stated by @“Erin’s Dad”.
No disadvantage. They will see you took Chem. That’s what they want.
College courses taken during high school are included in your record when you apply to colleges as a high school student. When you self-report courses and grades to UCs (and any others which use this system), you include the college courses and grades as well as the high school courses and grades. For colleges that want transcripts on application (and UCs if you are admitted to and matriculate to one), you must send both the high school and college transcripts.
Thanks that’s really helpful :-))
