Which is the best Cal state?

Cal-Poly's like SLO and Pomona have a reputation for being good Engineering schools, so I think those two should be on top of your list.

yes, and san jose state reportedly has the most CEOs of anybody in the state university system. it's a very underappreciated university in a great location.

speaking of underappreciated, i know someone who participated in some of the engineering competitions that csula participated in and won. these include the gmc solar vehicle sunrayce in 97' and the sae super high mileage vehicle competition in which csula was #1 for both in the country beating the likes of mit, stanford and uc berkeley. they've finished numerous times in the top 5 in the gmc sunrayce and top 10 in the world solar vehicle challenge in australia.

i know csula gets flack for not having the best students but i don't think that's as much the case for its engineering and business students.

cal state los angeles frequently gets overlooked for a couple of reasons. as you say, the students don't have the highest profiles and the university is not very well funded. on the plus side you have a student body that often overachieves. it is tough when you have better engineering and business programs around you like cal poly pomona, long beach state and cal state fullerton.

i agree there's constant overachievement among the student body, but that alone won't lead to success in engineering competitions of the type i mentioned. i transferred from cal poly pomona to csula and the business students at la were ok compared to others like those in the social sciences/humanities who were, for the most part, not too impressive. i've heard some pretty good things about the engineering students as well.

I got accepted to CSULB for the fall 2006 semester as a transfer student and plan to take business. unfortunately, i passed on it to go to a CSU closer to home in the Bay Area and plan to transfer in Spring 2006 instead. is Long Beach that much better than any of the Bay Area/Norcal CSU's? like SJSU, SFSU, Sac, Sonoma, East Bay etc. or is the difference not too much, that i shouldnt regret my decision later

beach is a slightly better place academically than san jose in large part due to the efforts of its president emeritus maxson and his team. the two business schools are very, very close, both accredited with excellent faculties and comprehensive curricula. the difference maker might be the $10 million san jose just collected as a private endowment. time will tell how dean magrid uses that money to advance his silicon valley programs, but i would bet on san jose.
