I want to subsrcibe to one of the news magazine to help my critical reading, so which one do you suggest I get? Thanks.

retarded idea

arre u serious??? that is such of a cc question. stonecold23 i agree with u.

i agree -------------

just read books. read newspapers. get a prep book if you must

I agree with reading books and newspapers. The smallest interval for a magazine subscription is probably 1 every 1-2 weeks.

7 newspapers > 1 magazine

newspapers are way better

The New Yorker Magazine....weekly and it has cartoons. Lots of variety and many many articles.

yeah I was wondering the same thing. I have a 560 CR... and I have exactly 2 years to improve it to a 700+....Since I dont read books and newspapers, if I subscribe to New Yorker for the next two years, what is the probability that my CR will be 720?

Do any of you suggest the Wall Street Journal newspaper?

LoL. theres probably more in technique than reading skills itself.

Besides, when you say you want to use newspapers to increase your score, YOU BETTER MAKE SURE YOU READ THEM. I've been a daily subscriber to my city's biggest newspaper for 3 years now, and my CR mark is still not to my hope-mark

I reiterate The New Yorker Magazine. Articles of varying styles, subjects, lengths......very engaging reading. You will be inspired to pick it up every week because the covers are nifty artwork and the cartoons are great too. Very high quality writing.

wsj is a quality newspaper. i read an article once about reading levels of ny newspapers. apparently nytimes is lower reading level than wsj. plus. i mean, if you look around in the subway in nyc, you see smart people reading it.

"Critical Reading" is a skill.....something to practice. I'll bet the chances of a student reading The New Yorker weekly is much higher than WSJ.......much more interesting styles of writing, varied topics and current events as well. The writing styles in a newspaper and that of The New Yorker are very different.

Will it help for sentence completions as well?

If you're not reading because you love reading and enjoying doing it, it probably won't help you at all.

New York [magazine] is different from the New Yorker, people

I like to read articles, but I didn't really know until recently that it could help a person do better on the sat. I will subscribe to the magazines. But in the mean time, if I only have time to read one newspaper, would you recommend New York Times or Wall Street Journal ? Thanks.

wsj definitely. its widely regarded as the superior newspaper both in reporting and writing.

I think it IS smart to expand OP reading habits if he has a year or more. Critical writing is particularly plentiful in the New Yorker which is a great way to develop an ear and a vocabulary for taking positions on essays. Fiction weekly and sharp commentary on current news. The WSJ has a student rate..we got it for our S for a while when he was interested in shaking out of his former obsessive reading veins. Another thing to do is get a cuppa and read the Sunday NYTimes every week. Good for you for expanding. College is all about taking on new courses and getting into career specific journals and research.
