I am a freshmen majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I scored a 7 on my math placement which means the highest level class I could take is MAT 132 (calc 2), 142 (honors calc 2), 171 (accelerated Calc) or AMS 161 (Applied calc 2). I was wondering which class to take, also as a freshmen do you have to take CHEM? I wanted to take CHEM honors but the class is full right now, so I was wondering if I should take it next year and take Bio instead?

Thank you so much in advanced!

Take general chemistry first. Many courses require this as a prerequisite (including the laboratory). Whether it’s the honors session or not doesn’t matter. As for math, I would suggest taking AMS 161. The AMS courses are more applied and geared towards engineering students, while MAT courses have a bit more theory.

Make sure you attempt to adhere to the BME course sequence. Taking prerequisites out of place (or late) will end up delaying your graduation.

Okay thanks, yes I am taking chem first and i have to take physics as well. But i ended up taking mat 132 since every other class was full I was wondering if you know how hard chem 141(honors) is?

141 isn’t substantially more difficult than 131. You cover the same topics, but delve into certain aspects and theories more intensely; thus, the pace is slightly faster.
