which meal plan to get

$500 in BRB equals 500 dollars right? we are not dealing with monopoly money right? x.x

correct--the important difference is that BRBs avoid sales tax. (this is key. as an oregonian I get really irritated by sales tax.) So you could buy food from an a la carte place with real money for the same price plus a chunk for Uncle New York.

Most kids have BRBs left over--I didn't because as a townhouse resident I walked past Nasties every day on the way back from class. Continued Nasties trips can drain them... avoid those and you'll be fine.

I had the traditional this year. It had 14 a week and I found that to be plenty. Do not get he golden bear plan, there's no way you'll need that much food.

Next year I'll probably go with 10 a week. Sometimes I wouldn't use all 14, and I'll be living in collegetown so I probably won't make it over to a dining hall for dinner every night.

wow 500 dollars seems very little. that comes out to about 3-4 dollars a day.

You can get a decent lunch for around $4.

Well, it's not really $3-$4. Think of it this way. On the weekends, you will almost never use your BRBs because you will either eat the delicious brunches at Appel or RPCC or go to collegetown. Also, there are free meals and free food everywhere offered by student groups or by the university, at least once a week. And then there's the parties, and the times you decide to cook with your friends, and the times you don't feel like eating, or the times you just want some ramen. I think now we're down to about $5-10 a day for lunch, and you can still get coffee a couple of times a week.

Usually, people end up with so much BRBs at the end of the year that Nasties start selling really expensive water and people buy pop tarts just to throw them into the dump and run.

Conclusion: don't be afraid to use your BRBs. Drink Odwalla, have soup with lunch, and eat at Louie's Lunch as much as you can, because you won't have it anymore after freshmen year.

so what plan do you recommend for people living in collegetown?

odwalla=love

Living off campus last year, I got the one w/ $400 BRB's and 10 meals (for th entire semester). You really should cook for yourself or you can just eat in collegetown.

Louie's Lunch excepts BRB's? Hot Truck too?

No, neither ACCEPTS BRBs.

but im gonna be living in a dorm, in cascadilla hall, so its gonna be kind of hard cooking for myself, so should i just get like 7 and all BRBs and then fill up my brb (can you do that?)?

There are plenty of restaurants in Collegetown that are cheaper and more convienent than going on campus every night.

if you're living in cascadilla, i think you have to get the collegetown plan, which is 10 meals plus i think 750 BRBs. Or is it 800.

Louie's Lunch and the Hot Truck don't accept BRBs! then what's the point of them being on campus?

Because they're tastey?

and open really late at night.

hot truck is on west and louie's lunch is on north? which is better?

the one that's closest to wherever you are at the time

Hot truck is way better. CMB, yeah, you can add BRBs to your account from the housing/dining website. Remember to do that if you run out instead of paying cash--sales tax.
