Meal Plans Confuse Me

Okay, so i will be a freshman next year, but i'm confused about the meal plan.
If i get the deal with 14 meals a week, and i only eat 10, do the meals carry over to the next week?
And also, how much is included in a "meal"? anything you want in one sitting?
Lastly, can the Big Red Bucks be used to purchase additional food in the dining halls, or only in vending machines?
Thanks!

No, your meals do not carry over. The meals are all-you-can-eat which inevitably leads to the Freshman 15 (and for some unfortunate people, the Freshman 30). BRB's can be used at places that aren't dining halls (like the Ivy Room, Trillium, and such).

oh okay
can you take stuff out of the dining halls, like an apple or ice cream or something, or is this an all you can eat inside the dining hall type deal?

I believe you are allowed to take one ice cream or fruit item although we've stolen err..."taken out" a whole cake before. God, I miss freshman year.

haha gotcha :)
thanks!

my son (class '07) is 6'4' and only had the 10 meal plan...his sister (class '11)has the 7 meal plan...neither were/are short of food...you use your BRB to eat on campus druing the day between classes etc...and you can adjust it for up to two weeks and after one semester...

you might start with 10 meals and go from there...

unless you plan on eating breakfast in the dining hall every single day, go with the 10 meals/wk

Until when do they serve breakfast?

i dunno like 10:30 maybe... check out dining.cornell.edu

10 meals a week is the best way to go in my opinion. I first had 14 meals/wk but don't really eat breakfast and used BRBs for lunch, so I was wasting a meal a day. The 10 meal plan gave me dinner plus brunch and dinner on the weekend. The 500 BRBs also go a long way...

there is no such thing as a 10 meal plan
only 7 and 14. i guess they changed it. 7 sounds too little though.

no more 10 meal? that was always the perfect plan too :</p>

What do you call Bear Choice, then?!

Dining - Meal Plan Options

The amount of misinformation on these boards is really something. I'm three years removed from Cornell, but literally 15 seconds of Googling will indicate that there is, in fact, still a 10 meal a week dining plan.

Getting rid of the 10 meal a week plan would be like tearing down the U-Halls on West Campus. Just not going to happen...

Edit: I just realized you are a prefrosh. So you're excused. Welcome to Cornell.

I was about to say...10 meals is perfect (1 dinner per night during the weekdays and 1 brunch + 1 dinner per weekend day + 1 extra freebie meal).

The best was when we secured both a cake AND a five gallon drum of Cornell ice cream the night before Slope Day my freshman year.

You and me both, norcalguy, you and me both.

Also, for Italian food, I would recommend Gepetto's, but sadly this State Street institution closed up shop after I graduated. Mama Gepetto was a getting a little bit frail in her old age, but her calzones were absolutely to die for.

wooo...count me in to the cake stealing club!!!

Slope Day debauchery is a whole other topic. lol My birthday always falls within a day of Slope Day which leads to double the madness.

But, in keeping with the dining theme, freshman year on Slope Day, in my semi-wobbly state, I managed to trip and literally throw my entire tray down the stairs at Appel.

oh slope day debauchery....my 21st was a week after slope day...good thing all my finals were at the end of the week :-D

I remember my friends sneaking a flask into Jansen's when we went for lunch and making us cocktails....I have no idea how we didn't get caught

So the $500 BRBs that come with meal plans are ... included in the meal plans? If you have some BRBs remaining at the end of the semester, can they carry over to the next?

yes...BRBs carry over from fall to spring but not into the following academic year. So...if you had 100 BRBs left at the end of the spring you would lose them.
