hey, just wondering what was the most popular meal plan. my parents don't want to spend too much but don't want me to go hungry haha. any suggestions and imput is greatly appreciated (i'm going to be a freshman living in freshman dorming like balch)

the most popular is 14 meals a week with 500$ big red bucks

10 meals works too…

14 meal / week.

I did fine with 10 meals a week…was able to have dinner in the dining hall 7 days a week + lunch on Saturday and brunch on Sunday. I used my BRBs during the week to buy lunch and coffee when I was on campus.

the unlimited would be a must if you are one of those people who MUST have breakfast…although experience tells that your average college student doesnt eat breakfast…

haha, yeah, not really a breakfast person. thanks for the info i think we’re leaning toward the 14 meals a week $400 BRB. thanks again.

usually you will eat breakfast and dinner at the dining hall, and lunch using BRBs. People get the 14 a week but most end up not eating breakfast (college sleeping habits begin to kick in…) You may think you will get up in time for breakfast before your 9am class, but you probably won’t.

You can always upgrade your meal plan, but Cornell dining charges you if you downgrade after a certain point. So my advice is start of lower (10 or 7) and then if you find you are running out of meals, you can upgrade later.

You probably won’t eat breakfast on weekdays unless you have an incredibly odd schedule. Buy cereal and whatever else so you can have breakfast in your dorm room.

Most likely you’ll be eating 14 meals a week where you’ll have to leave your room. But some of those will be bought with BRB’s. I think 10 is usually enough, but many go with 14. I went with 14, but I always had 2-3 leftover. But of course that means 10 wouldn’t have been enough.

I think you can change in the middle of the year though.

there is a 2 week time when you can adjust your schedule so you can try 14 and go down to 10. Altho you will probably actually EAT 14 leals or so a week, they most likely will not be in the All-You-Can-Eat cafeteria - you will likely be on campus during the day for lunch and can eat lunch in a cafe that takes BigRedBucks…so 10 meals covers most dinners in the freshman North Campus cafeterias plus brunch on weekends plus a lunch or so in the freshman North Campus cafeterias - you might find yourself heading into college town on a Friday or Saturday to eat so that would be a “punch” you don’t use that week - and they do not carry over week to week…

A bunch of my friends from there told me to try to get a plan with as many BRBs as possible since most of them spend those for meals rather than using the set number of meals.

I would suggest the 14 meals/wk for the first semester b/c you will be socializing a lot at meals and will want to go to dinner and breakfast/lunch with friends. If you join a greek house, you might end up going there for dinner once or twice (or more) a week, so I would highly suggest downgrading to 10 meals/wk after the first semester. Even if you don’t go greek, you might not need 14 meals/wk once you get used to a college schedule of waking up 15 minutes before class lol.

when we use the BRBs, how much would a typical breakfast or sandwich cost? like would it be better to get more BRBs and less meals or the other way around?

I would say get More BRBs and less meals.

BRBs can pay for dining hall meals, but dining hall meals cannot pay for BRB places.

Is that 500 BRBs per week or throughout the entire semester? And I heard that upper classman dining sucks compare to the freshman dining. Is that true? If so, can upper classman go to the freshman dining with the 14/week with 500 BRBs plan? lol…

technically no :(

how much is a typical meal at the dining hall?

^— so that means that some of the upperclassman do go to the freshman dining anyways? lol

I think it’s funny, most of the freshmen will go eat on west once or twice and say the dining halls are so much better.

Then talk to the sophomores and they will say the freshmen dining halls on north are better.

It just seems like grass is greener mindsets.
And that is 500 BRBs for the entire semester.

Any leftover BRBs in the fall will transfer over to spring. But any leftover BRBs in the spring will NOT transfer over to the fall.

And as part of the House dining system (upperclassmen) you get 50 meals in the semester to use at any of the freshmen dining halls. All of the other meals are supposed to be eaten in your house. Thus why he said technically, no.

do these 50 meals anywhere apply to oakies as well as other west campus house dining halls (i.e. if you live in keaton but want to eat at alice cook)

I am actually not sure, I’m only a freshmen.

I would imagine that your house meals would also apply to the other houses (Keeton, Becker, Rose, Bethe, Cook). But any dining hall outside of the house system (104 West, Risley, Appel, RPCC, Oakies) would count as one of the 50.
