Which place is better to study/work at? Dorm room/lounge or library?

For me, I can do it in both of those locations. Although, it also depends on if your library is crowded or not, which can cause some noise disruptions. Also, our library is going through some expansion construction right now, so by next semester, everything will be back to normal.

For my D, the dorm was the LAST place to get any studying done (in a very small triple last year). She made liberal use of the many libraries on campus. Lounges were OK, but tended to get noisy.

I think there was a study done that shows that mixing up study areas actually helps you with retention, etc. So, if you are able to study in a variety of places, it’s to your benefit. Even changing rooms makes a difference, as does different times of day.

I had a chair in the library next to a window where I studied and napped. I mentioned it to the library director, who was also my cross-country coach. His reply was, “I notjced”.

This semester, I study/do homework (that doesn’t involve physically going to a lab) in the dorm since I have a single. Usually though, I did all my work in a chair in the lobby of the music building (so much so, that they nicknamed that chair my office) or in the music tech lab (this is also where I watched a lot of tv… such big computer screens!). Unfortunately, this year the music building is under renovation so my spot is gone :frowning: we’re in a different building temporarily that’s not soundproof, so I don’t like working in the tech lab now unless I have to.

I usually study in the library or other public place if I’m studying with other people only. If I’m by myself and I go to the library, people come up and talk to me and I end up messing around instead of studying/working haha.

I actually do very well studying in my room with some Netflix on. I can’t study in quiet either or I get bored very quickly.

Just depends on what you prefer I guess.

I can’t study in the same room as my bed, or else I will fall asleep.

When I was an underclassmen, the dorm quiet lounge was the best place for me as I had not yet mastered studying techniques, so I needed to be alone in silence, while being surrounded by people also studying so I could be motivated and not go stir-crazy.

As an upperclassmen, I had mastered the ability to effectively switch in between socializing with friends, gaming on my laptop, and focused studying. Around this time, I studied in the commons of the library where most of my friends/acquaintances showed up to study/socialize. Even with maximum noise level, I could tune it all out when I was completely focused on my study material.
