This is probably a dumb question but how do students decide which subject tests to take? Do you take tests which you think you'll score the highest on? Or the ones most correlated with your intended college major?
Did you decide on your own or did your parents/teachers/GCs tell you which ones would be best to take?

We are getting no help from our school....

My daughter did poorly on the Spanish SAT II (520) even though she had taken 4 semesters at the local community college and got A's in each class. She is bright and got a 1540 on her SAT I and did well on her other SAT IIs. One problem was that she waited 6 months after the last class to take the test, but I would probably not recommend that you take a language test unless you are quite fluent.

Ouch! That was sort of a poor decision, especially with a language course. Back on the question, I would recommend that you take courses that you excel in! You want to show the college that you're good at various subjects. The way I look at it, generally you major in something your good at. The reason being, for me anyhow is that what I'm good at I enjoy, and hence me majoring in it would be a no-brainer. Take more than 3, if money isn't an issue, if you think that you can't decide. GL!

In the past Math 1c or 2c and english writing were the required tests along with a 3rd sat2.
Starting 2006, you need just 2 sat2's (preferably a math and another topic).
If you're good in science you can take bio, chem or physics. If not, you can take history, lit and/or language.

Language is a good sat to take even at the end of senior year just for placement purposes.

In my opinion bio is the easiest test to learn and get good scores.

Some top students take many sat 2's and enter their scores on the applications. I've seen applications with over 7 spots to enter SAT2 scores.

Thank you for the responses :)

BTW, how are the subject tests compared with the APs?
S just took the calc AP this week and said it was a killer :(
and he has the AP chem coming up next week. Are the SATs thought to be just as hard?

Preparing for one test will help for the other but they are different.
Sat2 is supposed to be easier but unfortunately it is more like a speed test.

High school AP courses prepare you for the Ap exams which are graded from 1-5 and even when the test seems hard you can pass with a 3.

You need to put in a lot of work in sat2 to get over 700 and the school might not have covered all the sat2 topics.
