which schedule looks better

ok this is what i took last year

calc
ap english lang
physics
biotech
ap french
ap chem

my focus is obviously science. The thing is though, I hate english, and don't want to take it next year, but don't want to jeapordize my chances on college apps. I got a 4 on the eng ap test last year. So which of the 2 schedules below looks better for someone that will apply as a science major to competitive schools and why?

sched 1

ap gov
ap phys
calc
engineering 101
science research
ap english lit

or sched 2

ap gov
ap phys
calc
engineering 101
science research
ap bio
on level english lit

sched 1 is 6 classes and sched 2 is 7 classes
does jamming all those science classes in there and taking the ez route out of the class i hate look bad, or does it not make a diff?

for me personally, the 7 class schedule will be much easier

I think both schedules look rigorous enough...it's completely up to you. However, realize that schedule #2 has an additional regular class and so it may hurt your weighted GPA/weighted class rank a bit. Is there anyway to take both AP Bio and AP English Lit? That would without question look better.

yeah there is, but that would require taking ap english which sucks

and as far as class rank goes, i transfered schools and didnt get credits weighted so while i am still top 2% i was cheated of top 1% and rly dont care too much about that anymore.

Of the ppl in the top 20, only a few (myself included) still have 4.0's

and thats another thing, the 2nd schedule guarantees 4.0 for me, while ap eng, while weighted, does not

and i talked to a upenn adcom that said ivy league policy wont let them use my class rank anyway

^ It's not Ivy League policy. More likely than not, it's only Penn's policy.

Proof:
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~oir/pdfs/cds2007-2008.pdf

Class Rank: X Very Important

that is weak proof lol, any ivy will say that class rank is very important

and the reason they don't use it is because it screws some ppl and it inflates others, so its not really fair

that's what he told me though, and im inclined to believe him

No, the other Ivies take that into consideration. I'm sure students at prestigous private schools like Andover or Exeter aren't graded on as harsh class rank standards as kids from some random public schools are.

As I've said, Penn may not take class rank into consideration, but it's not necessarily true at all of the Ivies.

atrophicwhisper you are aware that im saying they cant use MY class rank (specifically mine) because the 2 diff hs's i went to calculate gpa differently

i think you misread my initial post when u tried to refute it

anyway back on topic plz, schedule 1 or 2 and why?

Oh, OK. :P Even though your class rank is great IMO.

You need to take whichever English course will teach you English best, because you certainly need it. No offense intended.

are you saying that based on what i posted?

judging my writing abilities based on a casual forum post is ridiculous (no offense, LOL)

but seriously if you were an admissions officer which schedule of the 2 would u prefer to see, and would the 2nd one raise a red flag to you?

It's not actually, because that begins to change how you write formally. I make an effort almost 24/7 to be a "Grammar Nazi."

I think you should take AP Biology with AP English Literature if at all possible, if not Schedule II is probably better. It is, however, a toss-up.

atbxintel: if you hate english, then taking a regular english class as a really smart student is NOT a good route at all. if anything, you'll get extremely frustrated towards most your fellow students and the teacher because they aren't at your usual rate, making you hate the class even more.

Does your school allow community college credit towards the english class? That may be a good option. I have no idea, however, how that bodes towards admissions, so maybe someone else can comment on that.
