<p>Out of that list the only school I can see close to QU is Hofstra. It is within the same price range and I think the classroom sizes are similar. A lot of people who go to QU also considered Hofstra.</p>
<p>Rutgers is horrible academically in my opinion for one main reason; classroom sizes. It is a state-flagship school so obviously classrooms are going to be packed. (More like lecture halls) No personal attention.</p>
<p>With QU, you get small classrooms. (Around 20-22 students per class) Also you get 4 roommates in a huge room so you’ll always have friends.</p>
<p>Fairfield & Scranton are Jesuit (catholic) schools, rated within top 10 Masters universities USNWR. Both have core curriculums that include theology, etc. Fairfield is not far from QU, in a lovely wealthy community, an hour to the city by train. Scranton is in Scranton, PA. Both are comparable in size to QU & pricetag- perhaps a little cheaper. Both are known for upper middle class kids, little diversity & partying mostly drinking. Hofstra is in LI and is known to be good for some programs, not all. Population is more diverse there and drugs seem to be more prevalent than QU, FU & U of S. Hofstra students have been making the news lately with drug busts galore, car jackings, etc.
Rutgers- flagship state u- larger classes, but good reputation- diverse.

<p>There is nothing similar about QU and Rutgers, and I’m not saying anything bad about either school. They’re just totally different.</p>
<p>Having attended Quinnipiac, let me also share a few other schools that I know are similar, and often compete for the same students:
Ithaca
Boston University (I know BU is a much larger school, but they do attract the same students)
Providence
Marist</p>
<p>Why is QU better than Ramapo? The incoming students have essential the same academic performance, the admission rate is the same and Ramapo cost over $20,000 less.</p>

<p>Marist has lower acceptance rate and better rated, and is actually cheaper… looking to go into digital media, and at least with that Quinnipiac advertises it better. Haven’t even finished applying yet, but <em>expect</em> get into both and want to get a sort of comparison… which one is more open minded/diverse? Thanks!</p>

<p>Not surprisingly many people end up chosing between Marist and QU. Both schools have pretty similar profiles, both have a beautiful campus and both are in the same very general geographic area. Marist is definitely cheaper which can be a factor. Both have good communications departments but if you know you want a specific major like research digital media you should research it at both schools. Don’t just listen to the school’s PR, but seek out a prof. or someone in that area to talk to about the program. Marist’s ties to IBM may be a plus for digital media but I’m not sure. Not sure which is more diverse - Marist used to have ties to the church but is now an independent school.</p>

But Quinnipiac has a very well-respected communications school. Its programs are some of the best and most highly regarded in the entire university.
