I'm one of those who decided to do the community college thing and spend my first two years of college in community college. I plan to apply to transfer to SDSU in two years and I want to major in Art(not sure which emphasis yet) and Japanese. I plan to complete the prerequisites for both majors in my local community college, including all my general eds.

The thing is that I've read in the SDSU website that I can only apply to one major at a time so I assume that completing the pre-req for two majors doesn't increase my chances of getting admitted? Therefore, I've decided to complete all the pre-req for only one of the majors and leave out a class or two for the other major to complete at SDSU.

My question is, which of my two planned majors should I aim to get admitted with? It depends on which would be less harder to get admitted with, Art and Japanese? Suggestions from those who major in these areas, or those who know well about SDSU admissions major-wise? Which is generally less impacted?

Don’t know anything about SDSU, but you are aware that each major is different in terms of type of subject matter. One, Japanese, is more academic where you learn the language, study it’s literature and culture, while Art, is more technical in the sense that you are taught skills in which you then apply to problem solving assignments?
I feel like anyone who would pick either would be more drawn to one over the other. What would that be for you?

Also, why not aim for UCSD? I feel like those majors wouldn’t be impacted(but could be wrong) at UCSD, where as if one of those or both are impacted at SDSU it would be due to there being more applicants that are only cal state eligible seeking admissions into an impacted program. If you are to be granted admissions into an impacted or popular major at SDSU, you most likely could be accepted at UCSD, especially if it’s not impacted there.

But to help you with your question, you can probably find out if the major is impacted by simply browsing the department website of each program at SDSU. It might list it as impacted in parenthesis next to it, or state it in admissions.
