I'm a highschool senior who's going to start my first two years of college at my local community college to get all those general edu classes and pre major classes out of the way. I plan to transfer to SDSU and double major in(or at least major in one of them) Japanese Language and Art(Studio Arts or Graphic Design emphasis). The problem is I'm out-of-state and I've heard that out-of-state transfers are usually put on the back burner during admissions, since admission is supposedly so competitive. However, since I'm not going to apply for admission to SDSU until two years later, perhaps admissions traffic will slow down then? What would my chances be then? Opinions? Advice? Especially from those who know how admissions in SDSU works?

Even though I was recently admitted I’m not exactly sure what your chances would be but I’m almost 100% sure that admission traffic will increase and it will get more competitive the more applicants there are, and being OOS is definitely a disadvantage, but as long as your do well in your CC ,and keep your GPA above average, you have a good chance of getting in.

Out-of-state isnt put on the back-burner for cal states anymore, they are poor and as a transfer, i know that they accept out-of-state people because you will pay a higher tuition and the cal states need the money, just look at all the threads on out-of-state-ers getting in over CCC students even with the CCC students having higher GPAs. you are actually in a good position for the cal states, not necessarily the UCs

If you go to community college go to either City, Mesa, or Miramar. They have a agreement with SDSU where if you keep at least a 3.0 GPA and fulfill all the required General ed classes and your prep for major classes you are guaranteed admission to SDSU.

I got in and had a 3.4 GPA, as well as all of my pre requisite work done.

Just ask at any office of your local community college for the California State University (CSU) General education breadth requirement certification pattern. (Yellow sheet) and it will help you determine your general education needs.
