<p>I know most colleges say you can take either the ACT or the SAT with the exception that if you just take the SAT, you need to also take some subject tests. I tend to do better at the ACT than the SAT, so I was planning on sending that and subject tests. I've searched through this forum, and most of the people admitted to Dartmouth sent both the ACT and the SAT. I'm planning on taking one or two more subject tests in October, so I can't take the SAT anymore (I might apply ED). Does it hurt me to just send in the ACT and subject tests or not?</p>

<p>your ACT score will actually be converted into an SAT equivalent before the adcom reads your file. So I would not worry, they won’t know the difference in the least.</p>

<p>Woah, I never knew they did this. How exactly does it work then, since a single ACT composite score equates to a range of SAT scores (i.e. a 34 on the ACT is about 2280-2320), so how do they transform it into one single SAT score?? Also, do other institutes practice this, or is it just Dartmouth??</p>
<p>It’s only a range if you don’t know the subscores.</p>
<p>I have no idea what formula they use or if other schools do it (though I would assume its common). I only know this happens due to a workshop with an admissions officer before applying.</p>
