Which term to apply for (transfer student)

I'll be earning my AA next year and plan on applying for 2013. I'm not sure if I should apply for Spring or Summer term. I heard getting in for Spring term is harder so would I have a slightly better chance for Summer term?

I would just go ahead and apply.

Unless it is a limited access major, it should be easy to get in with an AA, provided that you’ve completed all of the prerequisite classes for your major and your grades aren’t completely awful.

I am also assuming that this AA is from Florida.

I’m a PSYCH- Major, I applied for the Spring term of next year [2012] and I got it. : ) I think you’ll be okay!

Hi Corbis! I agree with sweetheart and papertiger. Also the choie of which term to apply to is yours. Many people say the summer is more of a quiet environment and you are able to adjust to the campus without all the hustle and bustle. And spring term is just spring term lol. I’ve never heard anything about the spring term being the easiest or hardest term to be accepted for. Most people feel that applying for one or the other creates an advantage for getting accepted. Honestly, I have no clue which is the easiest to get into but I applied for the spring term, and I got accepted:) Just like papertiger said, the reason for getting in may be becasue the major you choose is not competitive or chosen that much. On the other hand like sweetheart said, you must have good grades. The only thing to do is apply and wait. If you have great grades it should’nt be a problem:)) I wish you luck!

thanks for the responses.

The thing is about my gpa and all that aren’t that great because I’ve been at a local Community College for far too long due to having no direction and just not being in the right state of mind.
This year has been the first year where I finally got it together and did really well getting on dean’s list 2 times in a row and plan on acing Spring term coming up.
I’m just a bit frustrated with myself for starting off so poorly and only recently started doing better.

I guess if I explain in my essay about the issues that caused such poor grades in the begininng maybe they’d understand and see I am a hard working student.
I’m just so overwhelmed by all this because I never realized how badly I wanted to succeed until recently. I really dug a hole for myself and trying so hard to get out of it. I just hope FSU will see some progress. I really want to go there…UF is my second choice, but I have a feeling I’ll be lucky if even USF accepts me.

I climbed my way out of academic probation and by the end of it all I’ll only have a 2.9 or 3.0 GPA, the thing is I know they calculate all attempts into re-calculating the GPA so I think my FSU GPA will be horrible. :/

O: Give it a shot anyway! I think you’ll be fine, when I applied as a transfer I didn’t have to do an essay.

o.o’

soooo…I just went ahead and filled out the application for FSU. I made an error on the first application and assumed I could go back and edit it, but it seemed like a hassle so I just submitted another application and hopefully they get the most recent one. I did pay the fee and then I need to send out other documents as I’m not a US citizen. I emailed my HS to send those transcripts because I had taken Spanish I and II already.
I also requested from my Comm. College to send my transcript.
I did not put anything in for SAT testing because it was years ago and I don’t remember any of that information and it said somewhere on the site that they don’t look at SAT scores. I guess if they later request that information I’ll have to dig around for those scores.
I’m so nervous and am not getting my hopes up at all. I’m expecting to get a rejection anyway, lol.

you’re applying to get rejected?

Huh, what I was trying to say…
Basically I’m just really nervous about it, and I am not going to get my hopes up. I know I have a decent chance of getting in as I’m not applying to a limited access program and there is an upward trend to my grades. I also didn’t like that there was no essay portion, which was kind of weird b/c there is no way of explaining certain things. Eh.
I guess I just have a bad habit of always seeing the glass half-empty.

the glass is only half-empty when it’s filled with alcohol.

If your SAT was good, I recommend paying College Board the archive retrieval fee and sending it in. Remember, you have to fulfill the CLAST requirements in addition to the AA itself. If your SAT was good, then you automatically meet this requirement.

I would definitely try to graduate with at least a 3.0 gpa. I’m not sure that even an AA will save you if it’s much lower than that. An AA guarantees admission to one of the 11 universities, but not necessarily one of the more selective ones like FSU or UF.
