Which undergrad college should I choose? I saw a packet about these colleges and I noticed required writing courses.

I'd like to go into a college which emphasizes math, science and the humanities, without having a required sequence of writing or Humanities courses(I'd like to choose which Humanities courses I want to take).

All colleges have a required writing sequence, though the length of that sequence depends on the college. Revelle definitely emphasizes science and humanities areas - their writing sequence is actually called "Humanities" -but it's 5 quarters long, so you probably don't want to list that college as your first choice.
Since you seem averse to writing sequences, I would recommend Warren or Muir - both colleges have only 2-quarter writing sequences, and you have a lot of flexibility in choosing what other types of GE classes you want to take.

nhsharvard - I'm almost 100% sure that UCSD will accept those foreign language classes for GE credit.
collegemom16-Sixth college actually has 3 quarters of required writing (CAT), and for two of those quarters the class is actually worth 6 units (at Warren and Muir all of the required writing classes are only 4 units). See Culture, Art, and Technology for more details.

Thanks TwylaBloo I just couldn't recall. My D was accepted into sixth two years ago but declined to attend. Now my son is applying so we are back at it. Is the sixth writing sequence known to be difficult?

what if i'm in one college but hear that another college's food is really good. am i allowed to go to the other college whenever i want to have a bite to eat? j/w how it all works.

What about Community Service hours? D heard from a friend that ERC requires 100 hours of community Service, not sure for 1 year or for 4 years. Does anybody know? I have not had time to call the school and confirm it.

collegemom - All of the writing sequences are known to be "difficult" to an extent - even at Warren people think that assignments are graded too harshly, despite the fact that our writing GE sequence is "easier" (or shorter, and not as much reading required) compared to the other colleges. As far as number of required writing classes goes, 6th is about in the middle. If the general theme of culture, art, and technology seems interesting, then I suppose that would help cancel out any perceived "difficulty" of the writing sequence as a whole.

99cents - I have never heard of that requirement of ERC, so I kind of doubt its validity....
