I go to a quite competitive (as far as GPA) private school in Texas, 3.878 GPA, rank 12/107. High School offers AP Chemistry and AP Calculus for seniors (I'm taking both, although every one gets into AP Chemistry/Bio). I took AP World History in my Junior year but didn't take AP English until this year. Basically, those are all the AP classes offered at my school. Took 6 credit hours (I think many of them don't transfer so I just didnt took many) but will achieve DAP (AP Spanish5 and DAP class project).
Scores: I know, theyre pretty much average (that's how I see them)
Nov 2013: 1810 (R:560 M:650 W:600 E:8/12) The thing is that the average for my school is 1200-1500.

I placed 5th for the Number Sense UIL (local) competition in my freshman year. I worked at a fast food restaurant as a clerk (summer job).

GPA is Weighted (my school only handles weighted)
Xs mean semesters I’ll be taking them.
3X means AP
1X means either 1st or second semester
2 X means it’s a full year long class

I could see you being accepted to all of the colleges you’ve listed (not sure about NYU, but it’s more my own unfamiliarity with the school than your credentials; they’re quite excellent). Hope you write good essays!

check out U Tulsa for petroleum engineering.
NYU is probably not in the cards but look at similar schools for business.
Will you need financial aid? What’s your EFC? HAve you run the net price calculators on the schools’websites?

Three apply texas essays.
A: how my peers started to change my personality throughout high school (until I fit in) without realizing it. I decided to change this and reveal the true me. I describe in a short paragraph their reactions.

B (used it for A&M and for the setback essay for UT, not essay letter B): how challenges have opportunities embellished within them. I recount my story back in fifth grade when my family moved to Illinois for a year. Coming from Mexico, it was a very drastic change in every aspect. I was made fun of because of pronunciation. I stated that this actually impulsed me towards self improvement, got from esl to Language arts within a quarter and how I excelled. At last, iI describe how this experience made me a more involved student.

C I talk about how my lifetime goal was to adopt the values of a mendicant (humbleness, etc.)

My dads income has decreased by a lot because he has his business in Mexico(workshop). His income last year was in low 20s so I would say Financial Aid is important (although not critical because we have saved money) Ive got no idea what EFC means, Im sorry.
Any further help is well appreciated

EFC= expected family contribution. What your family is expected - it’s not what you would like to pay though and it may not be affordable.
Before you go any further in your college search, go to the Net Price Calculator (NPC - mandatory on each college website) and enter your financial information. You’ll see how much you have to pay “out of pocket”, sometimes with or without a loan/work study. Write down the estimates for all colleges discussed here. Then talk with your parents.
If your father’s income is $20,000 and your mother’s making about the same, you would have a low EFC and you should attend colleges that meet 100% AND will meet your need.
[100% Meet Need Colleges | CollegeGreenlight](<a href=“Colleges with Need-Blind Admission for U.S. Students”>Colleges with Need-Blind Admission for U.S. Students)
If the college you’re applying to is not on the list then it means your odds of getting sufficient financial aid increase with how competitive you are for the college; ideally, you should be in the top 25% applicants to get a good financial aid package. If you’re middle 50% and down, they will not meet your EFC (ie, you would get in but couldn’t attend because you wouldn’t get enough money).

I see. Well, although my parents income has declined ( as of right now, it seems as its starting to rise; well, he has a business), depending in which university accepts me, I don’t think cost will become an issue as my parents have a good amount of money saved. Besides, we’ve always said that even if school was to take all savings, it’d be worth it ( I have very supporting parents, and my idea has always been “today for me, tomorrow for you”).

So, you guys think I have a chance at all of these schools(excluding NYU) ? Btw, my brother graduated from U of I (engineering degree and masters) but application doesnt ask so. I’ve applied to the ones in TX, will apply soon to OOS universities. I am kind of skeptical about UT though. What do you all think? (if it helps, I’m resident)
I also plan to retake ACT in Dec for my third and last time. ( for OOS univs.)

Ut will take the top 7% of texas resident high school seniors automatically so is there any chance you may be moving up in rank?? It is my understanding the rank is highly considered there.

Unfortunately, there is no way my ranking is going up that much ( at least this semester). Even though place 6/107 has a GPA of around 98 compared to mine of almost a 97 (96.9768), UT would take my current rank ( last year’s), not the one that will be updated this Dec/Jan.

One more important question, I just noticed one of my recommendation letters (sent to A&M and UT) has a fragment! Another rec. letter (sent only to A&M) has the date of 2009 rather than 2013! I don’t know if I should laugh or worry haha! The guy told me he had reused (but added things) to the letter after I had sent them! >_< Will those errors affect my chance?
