White House Internship

Hi all…its been a while since I posted an update…well here it is:
Applied for summer '10…no vitals email…no interview…rejected…got email about alternative opportunities.
So, I’ve applied for the alternative ones and awaiting their response…lets see what happens…will keep ya’ll posted

Applied for DHS at White House’s advice. Have an interview for next week…

Did anyone else who applied to volunteer in OPC get an e-mail saying that final decisions will be out next week? I wonder if it is as selective as the internship process. Also, did pending interns ever hear back???

Yeah I got the OPC email.

I got the e-mail from the White House volunteer program as well! ( I am not sure how selective it is) I also just had an interview with DHS yesterday.

are those who applied for the OCP volunteer program doing it during the fall or the summer? I applied to volunteer in the fall a little over four weeks ago but haven’t gotten any other e-mails talking about decisions since I sent in my security clearance forms. Also, the latest e-mail i got from them (4 weeks ago) said that they would contact me to start volunteering when the whole “process” is over, so I didn’t know you could really be rejected unless under certain circumstances…confused, sigh…

Update: I was accepted to the summer volunteer program–though I have little intention of taking the position, seeing as it’s glorified BS (answering phones, writing letters, etc) not worth the time and money inherent to spending the summer in Washington.

Has anyone been looking for Housing? Any success?

GW still has housing available. That’s where I’ll be.

are the rates at GW bad?

Do you know if it is possible to be accepted for the internship at the White House if you are 18, but are doing it during the summer of the finished senior year, yet have been accepted into a college?

Does anyone know if it is alright for your recommenders to submit their letters on the website before you’ve actually submitted your application? Will they be matched up?

soooo FALL 2010 apps are IN!! anyone else apply??

I did, I think. I say that because I got a confirmation email after I submitted my application, but neither my recommenders nor I ever received confirmation emails when they submitted theirs. Some of them submitted multiple times.

Did you receive one trp8822?

Yes, I received a confirmation e-mail for the App, and 3 Recs, but not a ‘final’ one when everything was in. My last recommender had difficulty the past week when the website seemed to have problems, but she eventually was able to do it and we both received confirmation e-mails. Maybe call to double check?

I did call, and left a voicemail. I also emailed the address given in the original confirmation email to explain the situation as briefly as possible. I think today one of my recommenders is writing as well. I haven’t gotten a response from any of these efforts.

Do you know how to call in? I just called the switchboard and asked to talk to someone who oversees the program. Is there a better way?

The only number I know of is off of earlier posting here for the WH Intern Office - 202-456-5979. I have e-mailed the office previously once or twice as well and did not get a response, I wouldn’t count on it either.

Thanks! That number worked.

Turns out you don’t always get a confirmation email, especially in cases when the recommenders submit before you.

The deadline has been extended to June 20.

It seems like the WH is all about extending deadline according to earlier posts… 2 weeks is a bit excessive though  already getting anxious
