Thanks Iāll keep my hopes up.

bruno14,

D was accepted to PLME and plans to visit later in April. She visited Brownās campus last summer, but realizes that being with actual students is the only way to get a true feel for the school. When working through admissions to arrange her visit and hosting, what is the best way to insure exposure to the PLME program and learn more fully of its undergraduate benefits? With whom will she want to meet?

Is there a cohesive PLME community at Brown or is it more loosely organized? Are there special events or programming for PLME students?

Other than her acceptance letter, she has not heard from Brown or PLME yet.

Getalifemom:

Is your daughter visiting for ADOCH? There will be a PLME-admit event on the Tuesday of ADOCH at 9 AM - I and many other current PLMEs will be there to talk about the program.

Otherwise, Iād be happy to talk to your daughter about the program and introduce her to other PLMEs as well. The main admissions office wonāt be quite as helpful; youād be better contacting the PLME office, whose email and phone you should be able to find online. If you PM me, I can help you get in touch with them if there isnāt information in her acceptance packet.

PLME community: we have PLME events about every month, with meetings for the PLME senate (student body government) every two weeks. We also hold volunteering events for the Providence community. In terms of day-to-day life, we tend not to be too cohesive, but I see that mostly as a good thing. I see myself first as a Brown undergraduate, and second as a PLME student; weāre such a small group that if we became too exclusive, itād be suffocating.

I applied and got into it! I really hope Brown reconsiders my financial aid or else this will be a lost dream :(

I was rejected but accepted at Brown, and with a acceptance of ~90% to med school, hopefully my reject wonāt matter :)

I am going to apply to ED for the plme program. I really want to
Get in badly.

can you tell me your stats ā my daughter is applying 2011 and we wanted to see if she has a
chanceā¦

can you tell us your stats ā my daughter wants to apply for 2011 coming year

My friend who got in had a 2200 sat 4.4 gpa no extracurriculars. But he was Hispanic. All the Asians I know who applied didnāt get in

My full stats are available in other threads, but I had a 2300 SAT, 4.2 GPA, lots of extracurriculars.

I wouldnāt read too much into ethnicities - PLME does tend to attract a lot of Asian/South Asian students, but there are also many black and Hispanic students as well.

Iām applying except thereās no way I would get my hopes up when the program has a really low acceptance rate (<3%??).

Dblazer: never give up! They still accept around 100 students every year.

Iām applying next school year. I would do ED if money were no concern, but it is. ):
Bruno14, how was your aid package? Does PLME do aid separately from the rest of Brown?

I have outside aid (complicated/unique situation), so I didnāt apply for FA through Brown. PLME doesnāt do separate aid - itās all based on what you get through Brown.

Hello Nice to meet you all Iām Vi.

Bruno14 I have a quick question please, I donāt know if youāre familiar with this type of situation before or have classmate who have the same background as me, but you see I graduated from High school back in 2010 but I decided to take a year off and went to Licensed practical nursing school for a 10 months program. Now I graduated with my LPN and I decide Medicine is really what I wanna practice. I was contemplating before and wasnāt sure and kinda doubted myself about my own abilities.

Would someone like me be allowed to apply to the PLME program at Brown and have a possible chance of acceptance even though I took a year to attend nursing school? my HS GPA is about 3.6 and I finished Nursing school with a 4.0 Iām taking my ACT soon. I have experience in mental health, Nursing, Nurse Assistant, home health and much more. Plus awards from HS and Awards from Nursing school.

Thanks alot!

Hi Vi!

I donāt know much about your situation, but Iāll do what I can to help. Some of this depends on how youād be applying to Brown. If you want to be a PLME student, youāll have to apply as a freshman, not a transfer. I donāt know if this will be possible, since youāve already completed another degree. I would advise you to contact the Brown admissions office and tell them what youāve told us, and ask whether you could still be considered for PLME.

Best of luck!

Thanks Bruno. Yeah I think itās best if I get in contact with the ADCOM. I donāt mind applying in as a freshman, because my LPN credits are not transferable to any college/university unless I go to my local CC for the RN program.

Iād love to go to Brown. Considering Iām only 20 minutes away, but itās really competitive. Anyways, Thanks a lot for your help :)

Iām a PLME '15/'19. Just to mention prestige, Alpert Med School does not have high rankings because it is not well known for its research. Brown is, however, one of the best clinical med schools in the country.

I am applying RD (I need FA)! I really hope I get in. But, since the acceptance rate is so low, I am not getting my hopes up.

Hi Bruno14,

I am new to CC. Iāve read your posts, and you are very supportive so I was hoping to ask you for your insight. I am applying to Brown and PLME RD. This is the only BS/MD program I am considering because it is the ideal match for my interests. I am similar to you in that I want Brown first and PLME if I am accepted. I did not apply ED for FA reasons.

My questions are:

1) How do you like PLME and Brown so far?
2) Will the interview be PLME specific?
3) I have 3 years science research internship experience and volunteer work in medical mission, and some shadowing, but if I havenāt spent over 200+ hours volunteering in a hospital will that hurt my chances?
4) Any suggestions for helping my chances for PLME?

Thank you very much!
