campus is ranked in the top 20 for most beautiful by the princeton review, so it must be pretty impressive. its in coral gables, about 10-20 minutes from downtown miami. i believe that cg is sort of an upscale, rich area, so im sure the area is nice and safe. miami has tons of clubs and all sorts of stuff to do, plus theres south beach. i dont know about other sports, but i know that football is huge on campus.

Ugly campus. Not even in Miami. Wealthy kids. Party. Kids from my school who couldnt get into better schools.

ummm i sure hope boston is wrong and bosox is right, can anyone confirm?

I've visited and know 10+ people there.

Campus thing I wont comment on, most people I know love it.

Over 60% of miami kids are on scholarships.

And some people don't WANT to go to better schools. Plus, they have a great alumni base, and they are constantly jumping in rankings.

Great arch/premed/business/music/marine sciences school as well. Miami is a solid choice and is constantly on the rise with such a huge endowment and plans to expand even further.

The campus is just o.k. There is a small pond in the middle of the campus, but not a lot of tropical foliage. A little money in landscaping could go a long way here. The dorms are some of the worst, with hurricane shutters blocking out the natural light. I know they're on someone's list of worst dorms. Apparenty they don't even try to evacuate during hurricanes. The campus is surrounded by an upscale neighborhood. They have a shuttle service to the beach. The academic reputation seems good.

Boston: There may be kids there who "couldn't get into better schools" but a large majority are there on merit scholarship, which is extremely generous......Maybe a lot of kids who feel that spending $30,000 is better than spending $50,000 for undergrad.....Regardless of where they got in.....

Canes12: Maybe you should start a thread, "what school did you turn down to go to UMiami?" I think it will surprise you......

It has a growing academic reputation. Anecdotally, I can tell you that it has an infamous history: it was the location of the only domestic CIA station inside the domestic USA, for Operation Mongoose, conducted during the early 60's, and was focused on the Cuba problem. That is no longer the case, of course.

crappy, crappy dorms. I can tell you that.

U Miami;s on my list...it's one of my lower choices tho
