How does region, race, AP scores play a part in admissions to the TOP 25 Especially the Ivies like Cornell, Penn, Harvard and "Ivy-Equivalent" MIT, STANDFORD, and the like

Does it play a big part? how about cliches like smart asian, and esol hispanic

I'd say its a toss up between the 3 URM's although the Native American would probably have the best shot.

Native American, then Black, then Hispanic, then White, then Asian last being most difficult lol

race plays pretty big. last year we had 4 into yale the 2 URMS had 1260 and 1290, the white girl had a 1480 the asian had a 1590....lol

Native American
Black
Hispanic
White/Asian would be most difficult.

However a white female would have the edge over an asian male
asian female would have the edge on a white male.

Where exactly does a white female have an edge over an asian male? I am not aware of gender affirmative action in universities...

thats usually if you are going into an engineering field (MIT, Caltech...etc.) since women are under-represented. That was what I was gearing towards, because of all the AP testes in Science and Math.

I never thought that Native Americans would have and Edge on Blacks/Hispanics
I thought Under respresented Minority Status was to try and make colleges seem more like the american populace. Native Americans are like 1-3% and most are concentrated in few areas. So if a school like Harvard has 4 or 5 native americans in its freshman class then isnt that similar to the US populace. But Harvard doesnt have 12-15% Hispanics or 12-15% blacks or anything close so how does a native american edge a Black/Hispanic in admissions. Is it becuase there arent even that many (4,5) who are accepted. Im not trying to cause a riot here but im trying to understand how this whole affirmative action works. Also how does a asian with 1550+/4.0 get passed up to a hispanic with 1400+/3.2. Is it really true that there are that many smart Asians especially since there only 2-5% of US pop.

yeah affirmative action at the top schools is pretty hardcore man...im black and have a 1550 though, so its not like im unqualified to apply to the top schools. but for natve americans its SO strong because frankl;y, most native americans live in crushing poverty. Alcoholism runs rampant in many N.A. families, and teh educations offered on many reservations are downright dismal.

I was really wandering becuase three friends who are Dominican,Ethiopian, and Nigerian all born here got into Penn with like a 3.15 and 1300 sats

There's not enough info for anyone to make good predictions. The content of the essays and recommendations and what exactly the ECs are would be important as would their parents' educational background, their family income and the kind of school they attend and the kind of area that they live in.
