Nope, it's not accepted. Sorry...

aramin,

You'll be fine; don't worry about it.

Good for you aramin, a male who wins a documentary for feminism, Your other credentials help you out. My school sends about 25 kids to UMICH each year. I think that I'd know what I'm talking about. Last year we had a 3.8 31 ACT get deferred and then rejected. Scores are not everything you know.

The range for UMICH is 27-31. Considering that UMICH is HUGE on URMs, many of the kids scoring >27 are URMs. There is also no doubt in my mind that with 3.2 mil college applicants the average will bump up a point to >28. 3.8 is also in that range. Without substantial ECs a 28 and a 3.8 makes you a below average UMICH student and therefore prone to rejection EA. I'm not arguing something as obvious as this. Some UMICH students will def support this notion.

so, with a 36, I'll probably be accepted within a month or so?

1MX-- What you are saying now sounds much more grounded than just "you'll be outright rejected if you have below a 3.8 and a 28." Lets not forget that some of those people on CC may be some of those URMs (Unfortunatley, I haven't seen/heard that in the past)

Just curious-what is URM?

some of you are mistaken. U-Michigan WAS huge on URM, but not anymore; in fact, it is against Michigan law to participate in Affirmative Action.

astrobaby-under represented minorities..i'm guessing?? (i'm not sure either)

1MX,

We never said that having a 4.0 GPA and a 36 ACT is going to get you accepted. You need the whole package (read my post and you will see where I mention the essays, recs, and ECs).

For someone that "knows what he's talking about," you think you'd be able to calculate your umich GPA...

They still participate in affirmative action, just they do not reserve spots etc. By saying that they look at applicants 'holistically' it is a form of affirmative action. UofM goes to detroit hs's and gives full merit-based scholarships to black vals with 25's (I know one). If that is not a form of affirmative action then I do not know what is. They put the kids in a special 'constructive program' as well. I will ask my brother, who attends UMICH, for more details.

4.0 and a 36 Instate is going to get you accepted. As long as you don't have terrible recs/disciplinary measures, I have never heard of an instate val with a 32+ being rejected, neither has my counselor in her 30 years of sending 20+ kids to UMICH. Correct me if I am wrong.

1mx
Proposal 2? banned affirmative action last year. Last year, they had AA through Feb? or something like that. This year will be completely difference with no AA>

Blackpen2008,

They will find ways to work around it...

exactly, they will recruit by city, region, or socioeconomic bracket, but whatever way you look at it they are always going to give preferred status to URMs.

Oh ya, the rep I that talked to said that the kids who have already been accepted are not necessarily the best of the best, but they did get their applications in very early, so there is no reason to worry if you haven't heard, even if you did get your app in early.

That's nice to hear 1MX. Let's say I got nominated for some prestigious (or so I'm told) award after my application...there's no way I can add it, right?

hpandu,

I was wondering the same exact thing. If I don't find out this Friday, I'm going to send the stuff in, including my last report card (which shows that I have all A's).

1MX, i think you should just stop trying to scare people. The avg. SAT at Berkeley is like a 2100, but last year 5 out of the 8 ppl from my school who got in had 1980s or below. there's so much more than numbers that goes into that, anyone can get rejected. our hs val did, with a 2230. just stop trying to scare ppl, and give encouragement, if anything.

bump for my last post too!

my friend had a 3.5 and a 33 with few ECs and he got in early.
