I watched it. It's by far the best. The organizers of the London Games are probably feeling very pressured now. It's gonna be extremely tough to beat this one.

and of everywhere in the world...
who would guess...
Africa has the biggest problem with genocide
especially with the "tribes" battling each other

But it makes sense. The last thing they need is a riot in Beijing where there are a lot of people who are liable to get hurt.

I truly doubt that is their biggest concern.

Think it through.

What damages their reputation more? That they have riots or that they have riots during the Olympic ceremonies, where famous diplomats and foreign tourists all come to attend?

Might as well dissipate all those concerns and tell the rabblerousers to go home, which they have perfect right to do.

^ I meant the people getting hurt isn't their biggest concern.

I realize that. But people getting hurt undoubtedly leads to damaging reputation, especially if the people are from other countries, and their governments are quick to seize on anything to damage China's reputation.

To be entirely honest, I'm not sure how much China cares about how the rest of the world thinks of them.

yeah,^
from their earliest dynasties
China referred to non Chinese as barbarians
they've always had their superiority complex, and still do

Well, then you would be wrong.

Because it's stopped most of its isolationist policies and have opened up to the world via foreign trade and what not for further prosperity. As it now runs on a market system, it would be pretty hard for it not to trade with other countries, especially with this need for oil in the modern era. It's always run on, as all countries have done, what is best for itself. At this point, it would be best if China had a good trading reputation with other countries.

In early dynasties, China was the most prosperous country. They didn't need anyone else. No one had anything they wanted because they had what they had and it worked well. Take a look at inventions, and half of them can be traced back to China. Early Japanese and Korean culture both can be traced back to Chinese culture.

yes i know
i love china and visit every summer
they invented gunpowder, paper, printing press, and the compass!!
even though they've opened up their trade, they still have a superiority complex

^^ But economic and political policies do not necessarily intertwine. We will continue to trade with China even if we hate them, because they hold a large monopoly on trade with us. They can tick us off as much as they want, we will more than likely not cut economic ties with them because that is where we get most of our manufactured supplies.

Overpopulation, that was a bad way to phrase it. Their population density is too high in many areas.

And their population is growing faster than anywhere else.

This is what I mean with Sudan. If we're that dependant upon China, think of the dependence in Sudan! China could excercise their influence regarding Darfur, and Sudan wouldn't cut the ties.

did you guys know
that every chinese couple is only allowed to have one child?
people don't have siblings anymore

^ I'm pretty sure everybody knew that... but what's that got to do with anything?

^^ Duh.

She's trying to make a point about overpopulation.

^ Oh... sorry I missed that lol.

@ INVENIAMVIAM

Naw. That'd be the modern dynasty. =P Also, sorry, but what is your username supposed to say? Every time I look at it I'm all "IN VIETNAM?" Except I know I'm missing and putting in a few letters.

Overpopulation: what are you gonna do about it? china gets criticized left and right about this one-child policy.

See, you'd think that, except one day, China will get ticked of enough of all the **** the US throws and go "**** it. go and die, USA." =P That's why we argue on webforums, isn't it? It's not going to make an impact either way, but either a) we have time, or b) people saying things we don't necessarily agree with bothers us.

idk felt like mentioning it because of the talk about overpopulation
it's sad that everyone will the only child
the future generations won't have cousins

Actually, everyone will eventually resort to inbreeding like in Alabama.
