Bogney, nor have we. D did get an invitation in the mail today for the Ecce Quam Bonum awards day, but that’s it so far. She (and we) are so anxious. She is just going to be heartbroken if we can’t make Sewanee work. Of course she’s okay with her other schools, but no matter how okay she is, she doesn’t love them like she loves Sewanee.

D has admittance with substantial dollars from Earlham and Sweet Briar (great horses, but not feeling the all girls aspect), small dollars from Sewanee, and was just admitted to Cal Poly SLO today. We are stressing about the choices and trade offs, but I suppose it is good stress. Sewanee remains her first choice, but going there will cost a lot more than Earlham which is a good school too. I doubt that she will get into her reaches in April, but if she does she will be freaking out about making the right decision. Her reaches are more expensive and probably won’t offer money, so I will be freaking if she really wants to go to one. The good news is that she is guaranteed of going to a good college somewhere, and for that we are thankful despite my whinging.

Hi. My son received the invitation to Ecce Quam Bonum Awards Day as well. Would it give him a better feel for the school if he went to that event or to the experience Sewanee admitted student event?

I would imagine that either will give him a feel for the school, with the EQB being a bit more festive and “special”.

Thanks for the offer. My potential freshman lives 10 hours away from Sewanee. How is the social situation? All welcoming vs. more cliquish? Any assimilation issues for “Northerners”? Thx

Thanks. Very helpful.

My daughter has visited several times now CollegeHereWeCom, and she’s felt very welcome every time. I think either event will be a good chance for your son to get a feel for the school really. It’s the type of school you get a feeling from the moment you step on campus in my opinion. It’s beautiful and serene and so many other things, all great, from our experience. I can’t imagine anyone making your son not feel welcome simply because he’s from the North.

CC… No, my S has not visited yet… he is hesitant to visit as it is VERY costly to fly there from CA, and we still don’t have the FA stuff… got a letter from Sewanee wanting our tax transcipt?? It is SOOO frustrating because every school wants something different… we have filed our 2011 taxes but it is not showing up yet in the IRS system so I can’t do the IRS retrieval or the transcript… I had NO idea this FA stuff was SO complicated… and with my S applying to 18 schools… CRAZY. So far, I am only sending stuff to the schools that email me directly with what is needed… I mean, why bother if I don’t know for sure if he is admitted.

@ Bogney…Congrat’s on the Cal Poly Slo admit!! My whole family went there and it has a GREAT rep in CA… my family is dumbfounded that my S did not apply. I know tons of kids who did not get in there… it is pretty selective. The best thing about SLO is they produce kids who get jobs… which is important in this economic climate. They start out day one taking classes in their major and have a lot of hands on learning. The location is beautiful… close to the beach and the mountains, GREAT college town… the kids that go there are VERY happy. It is just a lot bigger than Sewanee.

That makes sense 5Boys. I don’t know why I was thinking that he was there this weekend for some reason. I must have confused a post. I understand about the expense. My husband is from California and we can go to Hawaii for what it costs us to visit his family.

Any reports from last week’s Merit Scholar’s weekend at Sewanee?

Thanks.
