Curmudgeon:
My son has gone from Hendrix being a safety to his first choice. He decided he didn't want to send any more applications out...he's done with the entire college process! He met a student from Hendrix in some random chat room who filled him in on all the "important" things..ie: record stores, clubs, dorm life, etc. So as far as he's concerned he's there. WE are also waiting for the financial package to arrive...checking coat pockets for spare change and praying that this Hayes Scholarship is a bullseye!

It really is wonderful to see that so many people are interested in Hendrix. I do believe it has been a well-kept secret. I'll be much happier once February rolls around ... wishing and hoping for the Hays for DD.

Texasmom and splashmom- I am probably too much of a curmudgeon to actually let thoughts of the Hayes enter into our merit fantasy world. I am hoping for a # that would approximate at least 3/4 tuition though. That would be sweet, leaving us $5k and R+B to cover. True lottery stuff like the Hayes..well... we don't talk about that around here. Something might jinx it. And where was that salt shaker? I know . It's next to the kid's garlic necklace she was using during the scholarship sceance when we called for the help of our dead ones. Certainly didn't need any evil spirits lurking about during that.

LOL! Thank you so much for always making me laugh, curmudgeon. With me feeling the need to vomit so much during this entire process, you would think I would have lost some weight ... but, alas, no. I find myself at the computer with a pile of Hershey's Kisses empty wrappers piled beside the mouse ... HEY, how did those get there?!!!!

omgoodness Splashmom...are we long lost twins???

That is entirely possible. If you find yourself sitting at the computer when you should be doing housework, eating really bad-for-you items with no thought to the end result, worrying about scholarship opportunities for your child, and wishing you were relaxing on the beach with a fruity drink complete with umbrella, then yes ... we are long lost twins! Welcome to my world! :)

Plus our kids' awards are very similar! See the parents merit post!

Congrats to everyone on the board. I am glad to see Hendrix is a favorite. I actually was one of the students that hosted the Hendrix chat room for prospectives about 4-5 weeks ago. It was funny because someone actually recognized my story from CC in the chatroom and asked me if I was the Jersey girl that went to Hendrix without visiting. Just thought it was a small world, or maybe CC is really big! haha

Hey, val - how is the search coming ? Winter has been pretty mild so far, huh? We were in the 80's yesterday. A town near here hit 90. Unbelievable. Far cry from N.J. I'd bet.

valuable1212, my DD said that was her that recognized you. She is very excited about the prospect of attending Hendrix. She absolutely loved her visit. I hope things are going well for you!

Valuable- are there going to be any more chat rooms this year? I was at a basketball game during the last one :(

curmudgeon- yes it is freezing in new jersey! i do miss arkansas weather. it was funny when it "snowed" on campus. And by snowing i mean dew and frost. People actually freaked out and felt like it was for once going to be a "white christmas" (this was before we left for break). I don't think they can picture getting over 10 inches of snow like Jersey does at its worse. I can't imagine if Arkansas experienced the blizzard of '96! lol Oh and by searching you mean transfer schools? I am still looking to apply to some of the old favorites. If I don't get in, then I wouldn't mind staying at Hendrix. But if you read anything about my college process last year, I was obsessed with Kenyon College. I really did fall in love with it at an overnight. Plus it may be easier coming closer to home. I did well this semester at Hendrix (3.8) so my options are open. I will keep you updated!

SplashMom-Best of luck with your daughter. Hendrix is a great place to be....GO Warriors! :)

acc_bound- I honestly have no clue if there is going to be another one. My guess would be no but contact Jack Frost of Admissions for information about it. He is always more than helpful.

Yep. I meant transfer search, and I was with you through the travails at the end of last year. D went to U of Dallas and met with the Hendrix bball coach and got to meet the girls (after a rare loss, that was unfortunate as they knew should have whipped 'em). I think she is getting more comfortable with the idea of Hendrix being a top choice even though it is closer to home and less national than she was originally thinking. We'll all see in a couple of months.

valuable -- uh, oh. There's a good chance you'll be eating your words at least once this year. Arkansas ain't Florida -- they'll be hit by a good old fashioned New Jersey storm sometime this winter.

Curmudgeon, this is Alex from the Trinity and Texas Tech posts. Im not a snob I took your advice and looked into Hendrix, and yesterday sent in an application. I know some really smart cool people who also applied to Hendrix from Austin. My Dad was in Little Rock on business recently and said Arkansas is surprisingly nice. Thank you for your advice.

By the way your D has really impressive test stats.

I got accepted to Hendrix today! Woooo.....

I sent my application (via commonapp) on January 16th. Talk about fast service!

Congratulations, johnny! Hendrix is a great school. We look forward to seeing more posts from you here. Have you visited the Hendrix campus? You live in Arkansas, right? It seems I recall that you live in Arkansas and were eligible for the Governor's Scholarship. Again, congratulations on your acceptance! :)
