Well I may not be the best example, but I chose Hendrix over American, Santa Clara U, and Rutgers. Santa Clara and American weren't too generous with financial aid, but Rutgers was. I was accepted onto main campus. Most people thought I would have chosen Rutgers since the money worked and of course it has a good reputation. American was more of an option then SCU financially, but still not comfortable enough for my family. Even though I didn't attend because of the money, my parents said if I really liked SCU and American, that they would find a way for me to attend. I still didn't think any education was worth that much considering I could get equal education for less. I know I didn't pick Hendrix over schools like Brown or Rice. Yet, Hendrix isn't known like SCU and American, and that never bothered me. I liked the fit. That is all I think counts. Sorry, I am throwing in responses when you are probably looking for someone other then me to respond... but I thought I would just throw that in.

Ahhh today Hendrix sent me a large envelope and I got very excited, but it was just an application for the Hays Scholarship. What a tease.

You should be getting your acceptance envelope soon...they are about a week apart...

:) :) :)
Has your son completed the scholarship essay yet?

He claims he's working on it...I told him a little effort right now could pay off big time down the line so we'll see...he'll definately have it done by 1/15

What range of ACT score is needed to attend Hendrix and receive some financial aid?

I am not sure if there is a cut off but I know if you are a resident of AR and you score a 32 or above on the ACT, the government offer you 10,000 dollars to stay in state. If you get this scholarship, Hendrix has an agreement that will pay the difference, hence a full ride. There are quite a few people here on full rides from AR.

I'm applying.

that'll be me on a full ride at hendrix...

I just received a financial aid letter that said if parents complete the FAFSA by 2/15 your child gets an automatic $1000 grant!

Hey, I'll be looking for that letter! Thanks for the heads up, Texasmom!

Yeeeehaw I got accepted!

Two quick questions:
1. Do you still receive the $1000 grant for filling out the FAFSA if you don't have significant financial need?
2. When will I get financial aid information?

Thanks a billion and congrats everyone!

acc_bound:
It only benefits you to complete the FAFSA! You will be surprised at what you can qualify for. And Hendrix is quite generous...they even have grants for families in the mid income range who might not qualify for gov. money! I was told that they will let us know about the financial aid sometime in January.

Here is a quote from the Director of Financial Aid, "Any accepted student who files the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by February 15, 2006, automatically receives an aid package with a minimum of a $1000 grant."

O.K. That makes $1000. Now let's see-where did I put that other $27-28 K? LOL. We should be hearing about the regular scholarships (not special apps like Hays or leadership or service) fairly quickly-right? Anybody ready to guess when?

Daughter was accepted last week. We're happy since Hendrix is a fine school, relatively close to home. Daughter has been assured of complete scholarship based on Governor's Distinguised Scholarship and Hendrix's match on that for full ride. D is also National Merit Semi-finalist (hopes to be finalist), ranked 1/161, 4.00 uw, etc. While she could realistically go to college just about anywhere, we're glad she has a great option close to home.
Now, hopefully, she won't change her mind at the last minute.

I'm really liking the quality of the students who have been accepted. This will help my D choose Hendrix if the $ come out O.K. . Swmbo, were your daughter's test scores and EC's commensurate with her other stats?

Curmudgeon, are you're sure you've checked the dryer, under the cushions, etc? You never know where that $25K might have fallen out of your pockets.

Curmudgeon, Yes, her others stats were in line. Actually, despite being from a relatively small, not well thought of (I couldn't think of an appropriate word) high school here in South Arkansas, she and two or three of her classmates have scored 32+ on the ACT. Good luck with the financial arrangements.

We got the letter in the mail today about the $1,000 grant for getting the FAFSA in early. Believe me, we'll be getting right on that. DD got an invitation in the mail today, too, for a reception that Hendrix is having in Nashville on January 9th. I bet they'll be making the rounds to other cities, too. I must say that both Hendrix and Centre have been very good about keeping in touch during the entire process.

swmbo, having a full-ride in my pocket for my kid to Hendrix would free me up to let her swing for the fences. Any plans to try to hit one out of the park?

And splashmom, we did good. Have you seen all the Hendrix acceptances on the parents board? There are a couple more down on the kids board. Last year there was nothing. We should at least get a plaque. LOL.
