I know that I don't have a realistic chance of getting into Cornell ED, but I still refuse to start my RD apps until then (December 11th). However, I did complete the ones that I literally did not have to write any essays for, i.e. BC.

i refuse to put in extra work before the decision (not so much optimism as laziness/procrastination)

same here !

I think I can reuse my Yale supplement for many of the other supplements so I'm not stressing myself over filling out RD applications just yet. If I get in then I might apply to one or two more schools for financial reasons.

The only supplement I'm vehemently against starting is UPenn. As much as I'd love to go there, that thing is long.

One of my kids did it that way. He just couldn't get motivated to work on the other apps while waiting for the ED decision.

The only problem was that when his ED came in as "defer to RD" he had to spend every day of Winter Break holed up in his room writing 7 other applications.

It's a choice...

If you like your Christmastime fun, it might not be the best choice.

What surprised him was that the time-crunch hurt most for doing a gazillion short answer paragraphs, which were all slightly different among schools. The big essays could be reused or tweaked to each school, but to make each application really good, he had to put in unexpected time on those short answer paras. Every school asked the small stuff in a slightly different way.

Since all of my RD applications are common app (with the section of MIT), I've already got everything done except the supplements. Same thing pretty much with MIT, and anything not there already can just be copied over.

well i've finished my supplemental for all my other schools...and if i dont get in to cal poly...

thats when i send them in

my senioritis will be wayyyyy to bad by dec 15th for me to be writing any more essays...

this is all assuming i dont get in...but i think i will

Just going to be doing several supplements... Thank you common app! lol

I'm hoping I won't need them though (fingers crossed), best of luck to everyone!

I'm almost done with my RD supplements (don't want to be overwhelmed when I get rejected/deferred). My fingers are crossed that all of these essays will be a waste, but I'm not very confident that that will happen and I don't think I'll be in a good place emotionally to write essays about other schools if I've just been rejected.

I think I have a pretty good shot at getting into my ED school... so I am going to have everything buy my supplements ready. I think it will be alright.

Bad move guys. In the event your dream doesn't come true on Dec. 15th, you've set yourself up for one of the worst Christmas breaks of your life.

The period before you hear from your EA/ED school is a really good time to start falling in love with the other schools. You have time. You aren't depressed. And do you want to jinx yourself?

i know 2 people who are doing this strategy and frankly I'm worried!

One girl, who applied ED to a very selective school, has only written the 1 common app essay (no supplemental needed)

i sent out around 8 apps already...
i'm kind of just sitting around and waiting for ED before i will do any more RD apps.

Yeah same here. I think I only have an avergae chance at getting into cornell ed and am having trouble starting to wokr on other apps. Got my list finalized and sent out all my transcripts and recs though.

I won't recommend sitting down and waiting for early results to my D or anyone else. I'm of view that in case of deferred or rejection the pain will be severe enough to hamper the remaining applications. This in turn will decrease chances to get into those colleges too.

You should not do applications under timeline stress, pain of deferred/rejection as that will reflect in your essays and short answers.

You can finish your applications before and might wait till the early results to send it or not if you want to save the application/SAT/ACT fees.

I'm following the same strategy, mainly due to the fact that schoolwork is eating up most of my free time...but I'm also rather sure that I'll get into my ED school.

I have been accepted to Tulane already so i am kinda just waiting to hear from my ED school before i really kick into gear on the other apps. For some reason a lot of due dates are like January 15th
so i have like a month to do them if need be.
im really really hoping not though

I refuse! I'm staying confident in my chances.

If I don't get in I'm going to want to die over Christmas break. haha. At least I have 16 days off.

I am waiting. I really could care less if I waste a vaction, at least there is the off chance I won't have to do the work...
